The Red House

Parking for the main house was at the side of a busy road. Fortunately I was in an annex room in a side street. To get to my room I had to drag my bags up a very steep narrow winding staircase. The bed was very clean and comfortable but the pillows were like bricks. Fortunately I had my own with me. After tinkering with the radiators we finally managed to turn them on and the room was warm. Kettle, cups and tea and coffee were provided. The toilet and the actual shower cubicle were clean and adequate. The little chair was too hard to sit on comfortably so I sat on the bed. The room was very tired and shabby and some areas were just stained and peeling. I slept well until woken very early by a toddler in the next room. Thin walls I suspect? I saved a lot of money by not going to a chain hotel. Would o recut or go there again? No, not for me.

Good stopover point. We used The Red House as an overnight stopover point to break up a long journey from 'up North' back down to the south coast. The building is 200+ years old and Grade 2 listed so lacks some of the refinements you would find in a more modern establishment. However it was clean and tidy and suited our needs. The single beds were very comfortable. Good breakfast and a very friendly and welcoming host.
