Quintinha São João Hotel & Spa

Good Service and Good breakfast.

From the second we arrived, the reception team was very helpful and welcoming . We were taken on a short tour around this small quaint hotel which had a nice indoor and outdoor pool and spa .There was some lovely seating areas and a bar. Then we were shown our amazing suite. Which had a very spacious lounge bedroom and bathroom all beautifully decorated and maintained. The balcony was also large and had amazing views of a hillside village that looked gorgeous in the evening when all the lights were on and in the daytime you could also see the sea. Breakfast was served in a relaxing room with very attentive cheerful staff .There was a very good choice and you wanted for nothing . The same room was used in the evening as the restaurant / Al le carte, and I have to say the food was exceptional Sara, the receptionist, planned a delightful coastal walk to a fishing village going through a gorgeous cave like tunnel. I really enjoyed that day and appreciated the time Sara took printing the map and bus timetables . The manager had a welcome drinks evening and chatted to everyone. We loved our golden wedding evening all off the staff came to say have a lovely time. The meal in the Al le carte again was delicious and a cake and wine was left in our room. A lovely surprise. Thank you so much. we have had the best time and will definitely be returning in the future.

This five star Quinta offers unrivalled standards of both service and care to every guest. Situated in one of Funchal's finest neighbourhoods, close to the city's vibrant centre, yet set in beautiful two acre gardens, it's easy to forget that a fifteen minute downhill stroll, puts you at the lovely marina with its fine selection of elegant shops, theatre, and night life. There is also a shuttle bus for the less energetic, or a cab ride costs around five Euros. This truly exceptional property offers the complete holiday experience with a fine restaurant which serves amazingly good breakfasts and elegant evening supper, whilst the spacious bar and terrace provides all day snacks in a relaxed atmosphere. There are two swimming pools, a fully equipped gym, a games room, a wonderful spa, and a large underground car park. Staff throughout the hotel are totally focused on their guests enjoyment and are always on hand to provide such services as may be required. As I spend 14 weeks here every year, the efficient and rapid laundry and dry cleaning services bear mention too. The common areas are spacious, filled with light, impeccably maintained, and a pleasure to relax in. Think of this Quintinha as your luxurious home in Madeira, I do.

We've been regular visitors to Funchal for around 15 years now, and have always favoured Madeira's small luxury Quinta's, as we enjoy the high standards of personal service they provide. A few years ago, we had the very good fortune to be introduced to the Quintinha Sao João, by a senior member of another establishment, which had sadly gone into decline. We now spend 14 weeks of each year in this truly exceptional 42 room property. The building itself, the common parts, and the vast guest rooms, are all impeccably maintained and a pleasure to relax in, but the ingredient any true luxury hotel must have is truly exceptional staff and leadership. This delightful hotel has it all, every guest is a treasured visitor, and is always treated as such, from arrival at reception, to dining in the fine international restaurant, to relaxing over cocktails in the first class bar, this is truly five star hospitality at its very, very best. The property has two pools, a beautifully maintained garden of some two acres, a world class spa, a games room, and a huge underground car park. There's even a shuttle bus which travels between the hotel and city centre, although the delights of the Plaza mall, and the city's smartest shops and bars are just a 15 minute downhill stroll away. When sunning one's self by the outdoor pool, surrounded by ancient trees, in one of the nicest residential areas, and with the bustle of the vibrant city just a faint murmur in the background, you are transported from the city centre, to the countryside. I truly love it.

This is a most beautiful hotel, with excellent facilities. The spa is great with a wide range of treatments; plus sauna, steam room etc. The ambience of the hotel is tranquil and very inviting. The level of service is second to none. The staff are extremely, accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excellent with a variety of choices, both local and international. The quality of the bedrooms are to a very high standard of furnishings and are spacious. The overall, cleanliness of the hotel is first rate in all areas. The gardens are beautiful with areas of seating. Overall, an excellent hotel that knows, what hospitality and quality of service is all about. I would definitely, recommend. I shall return.

We have been to Funchal 4 times and this is the first time in this hotel. Firstly I have to compliment the staff who were the friendliest we have ever experienced in a hotel. Lots of help and advice in the hotel on where to go and how to get there in Maderia. Spa was good although you do have to book. Room was lovely with great views of the sea and mountains. It's well located near to the centre, about 15 minutes walk. Breakfast was really good quality with a great selection. We ate in the hotel once which was good and they do cater for vegetarians. Thank you all at the hotel for a great and very relaxing week.
