The Freeport Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

I should’ve known it was going to be a disappointing experience when it took nearly 30 minutes just to check in. The front desk person clearly had no idea what they were doing. Once we finally made it to our section of the hotel (Section F), we were hit with an overwhelming smell of mildew and what strongly resembled feces. Inside the room, things didn’t improve. We were missing a tv remote, the furniture was extremely worn, and my nephew spotted a cockroach in the sink. We immediately requested a different room in another section. At first, we were told the hotel was sold out but eventually, they did move us. The new room was only marginally better. The hallway still smelled unpleasant, the AC wasn’t very effective, and the furniture remained in poor condition. We only needed the room to sleep for about 8 hours, so we stayed, but I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s frustrating because I stayed here about two years ago and had a completely different and positive experience. Unfortunately, the hotel has gone downhill fast. It’s in desperate need of a deep cleaning and proper maintenance. What we paid definitely didn’t match the quality we received.

We were there for four night. Two days we left the makeup room sign on the door. The room was not touched. We had to go to the desk to get fresh towels. On the day that the room was made up they took the shampoo and soap but did not replace them. One day there was no hot water. We stay at Choice properties whenever we can, but this was one of the worst stays we have ever had. The hotel talks of being a boutique hotel. It is not.

Excellent location; only a 5 minute drive to downtown Freeport and right across the street from Maine Beer Company. Breakfast was great, and the room was very nice! No complaints, our weekend was great!
