Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel & Lodges

On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly helpful receptionist who showed us our room. The food was delightful and served by very friendly professional staff. This hotel has relaxing atmosphere. Everything was bright clean and to a high decorated standard. We’ll be back. ☺️👍

Arrived Sunday 31st August, with my wife for a night away following a recent bereavement of my mother-in-law . First impressions the hotel reception area was lovely and indeed the grounds of the hotel are stunning. I would also say the reception staff are fabulous and most helpful. I booked dinner for that evening and was told only availability was 6.15pm or 8pm. I took the earlier booking but noted during my time dining which ended at approx 8pm there were multiple empty tables of 2 available throughout the entire time so was somewhat stunned as to why they said no tables available from 6.30pm - 8pm. The service was poor not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel given its location and impressive location and interior decor. The bread sharing platter was not good at all in fact embarrassing could be improved, the chicken goujons and lack of chips for almost £20 was saturated in oil with the garlic mayo dip like watered down milk- had to ask for a water glass as only 1 on the table, I had wine and beer wasn’t asked if I wanted another drink despite the glasses sat empty for a long time. Breakfast was very average and the orange juice was not good at all again the staff server was very pleasant. The room was reasonable however the pillows are definitely in need of some consideration as they are most uncomfortable and last but not least the safe was not secured to the fabric of the room - so a bit pointless having a safe - needless to say I had to carry my valuables with me. I did notify reception when checking out the following morning even showed them the picture of me holding the safe to some shock - attention to detail is most important - and first impressions last in the hospitality business which I am very familiar with for over 30 years. I expect these are teething problems which will rectify itself.

We stayed in one of the lakeside lodges which was beautiful and very relaxing. Everything from washing tablets to teabags were provided. Swimming pool was great and not very busy. The only thing we were disappointed in was the meal we had in the restaurant on the first night. Food was a let down we had curry and beef for our mains but found it all quite bland. We had been looking forward to our meal but it was disappointing. Nobody checked on us to see if everything was ok or if we needed more drinks. We had to go to the bar to get a drink, service was very slow as there was only 1 barmaid serving and also making all the cocktails. Yet there were lots of staff standing about doing nothing. We nearly felt guilty bothering her. We had planned to go for breakfast the next morning but decided against it. We would definitely stay in the lodges again but we would not be returning to the hotel for food.
