Lovely old fashioned hotel in a suburb 10 mins from the centre of Durham. Spotlessly clean room, with comfortable bed, and delicious breakfast made to order.

This is a very friendly independent hotel, typical of an old fashioned English guesthouse. It is located a 10 min walk into town and has parking. The breakfast was excellent and the manager (Anna) was lovely. The room was clean and spacious although the decor slightly dated and the mattress a bit squishy. There was a restaurant that did dinner but we did not eat here, although the menu looked good.

Great place to stay. Anna was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. She had lots of local knowledge. Good location with great view. Quiet area but within walking distance of centre and local attractions. Plenty of choices for delicous breakfast. Good spacious room. Good restaurant for evening meal. Sympathetically restored historical house, retaining architectural features with all modern amenities.

Great location, nice big house, spacious and cozy room, ample parking space, nice views, quiet neighborhood, friendly staff. They also offer Indian dinner. The owner could do better by fixing couple issues: bathroom mirror is high and small when compared with regular hotel rooms; towel edges started to fray.

We enjoyed our stay at the Farnley Tower Guesthouse. Richard and Anna couldn't do enough to help us with a little issue that arose. Our room was comfortable and quiet. A great location so we could park the car and walk down to the centre of Durham in under 10 minutes. Loved the breakfast -various options and well-cooked. Great Indian restaurant in the building -an excellent meal and very handy.

We had a lovely welcome and excellent service from Anna. The breakfast was good and our room and bathroom were clean. However our bedroom, the Shower in the Tower room was a very small attic room with a private shower down the landing. Unfortunately the double bed was lumpy, we could feel the mattress springs when we lay on it. Some pillows were old and lumpy. Because the room was so small there was only space for one upright chair and an old broken suit hanger. On our second night it was really cold there was no heating. The one large velux window looked out at a tiled roof. The only window that would have had a view was in the chilly shower room and was locked, the other bathroom window looked at another tiled roof. It really felt like the owner had squeezed another room in a small space and shoved all the old stuff in there. It’s a shame as, reading the other reviews of superking beds, well equipped rooms and beautiful views Farnley Tower sounds ideal, but it wasn’t for us.
