The Running Horses

We went to the Running Horses today for a drink. We have been going for many years to both eat and sometimes for a drink. Today was chaotic. All the bar tables were reserved and there were no bar stools. The impression given is this is no longer a bar to come for a drink but 100% a restaurant. We are local and will no longer be recommending the Running Horses, which is rather shortsighted as verbal recommendation is key! One group in the bar were asked to move table as they had been given the wrong table initially, this may have been ok if they hadn’t already started their meal, it was not acceptable. A gentleman at the table next to us was of the same option, a regular for many years considering not coming back. The staff were obviously stressed and over worked! Please don’t be greedy with your table allocation, eating out is expensive and it should be an enjoyable experience not a rushed one!

We stayed here for one night. The room was clean and comfortable, but unfortunately the service and food were very disappointing. We had dinner at the pub, and my partner’s burger was served raw, with blood visibly leaking from it. We decided to give breakfast a try, as it was included in our booking, but that experience was no better. My order was wrong twice, and when I politely mentioned that it was still incorrect, the waitress rolled her eyes, took the plate, and walked away. At that point, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. During checkout, no one asked about our stay or acknowledged the issues we had experienced. There was no apology or offer of reimbursement for the inconvenience. Overall, we would not recommend this hotel.

Had an excellent Sunday lunch here with family. Arrived slightly early and although the table was ready we were asked if we would like a drink at the bar before we sat down which we did. Despite being very busy we were not rushed to our table at all and enjoyed sitting in the busy, welcoming, friendly bar area. The restaurant area is very comfortable and spacious with good size tables. The Sunday roasts were absolutely delicious, between us it was either pork belly or beef which we all devoured! Would definitely come back and would highly recommend.

We've enjoyed a stay of 3 nights at the Running Horses and can thoroughly recommend. All staff were so kind and helpful, the room was spotless and very comfortable. The idyllic position of this 16th century inn means there is no car park, but this was never a problem as always plenty of adjacent parking at the road side. The food in particular is excellent, imaginative and delicious. Special thanks to the mystery person who so kindly settled our dinner bill. We were totally astonished and couldn't believe the kindness of strangers. Please be assured that we shall pass this gesture on, it certainly helps to make the world a happier place.

Beautiful location Very friendly staff. Great food in the pub and lots of variety. The bed was comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Quiet location.
