Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham des Moines Airport

Not a bad place to stay especially if you're getting a flight in or out of the Des Moines international airport just up the road less than a mile. This is a no frills hotel with continental breakfast included.

Economical hotel with clean rooms top to bottom, decent continental breakfast with extended hours for early travelers, friendly staff and a price you cant beat for what you get. One drawback was the bed was too firm for me. I could barely sleep. Fortunately all I am doing is catching a plane back home. If I were driving, I'd be more put out. All in all I was very pleased.

We travel a lot internationally, so we allocate our travel budget for that purpose and tend to be frugal on domestic trips that aren't a prime destination for us. This was one of those cases. We booked eight nights in this hotel, so I could compete in swimming at the National Senior Games. What a nice surprise-- totally unexpected for a Days Inn. Our room was quite nice and quiet (double windows; no airplane or traffic noise), breakfast was well-stocked and maintained until 10 AM, and even the small indoor swimming pool was great. Surprising for an indoor pool, it was airconditioned and not hot and humid like every other indoor hotel pool I have been in. And, the water temperature was not ridiculously hot either. So, I was able to get in and loosen up upon arrival and the day prior to the competition pool opening for practice, do some swimming drills, work on my turns, and do what can only be done in a very small pool-- better than nothing! Regarding the room, the bed was comfortable and the sheets nice and soft. (I hate stiff sheets!). Even the towels were new! The staff and manager was also very nice, checking in to see how I did in competition (bronze & silver medal!) and making sure everything was ok. I doubt I will ever get to Des Moines again, but if I did, I would book this hotel again without hesitation.
