Royal River, Luxury Hotel

Recommended to try here by friends. Although the venue and views are stunning, the restaurant staff were quite unfriendly Had to ask four times for a wine top up, it wasn’t that busy. Don’t get a friendly vibe at all which was a shame. Food was good so that was something.

We stayed at the Royal River Hotel for seven nights starting July 16th, and honestly it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. As soon as we arrived we noticed how fresh, clean and calm everything felt, we checked in, then had a tour of the hotel and our villa. The staff were consistently excellent, kind, helpful, genuinely lovely and very attentive, from the reception staff to the butlers, the restaurant and bar staff and the spa team. Our River Villa was spotless and finished to a very high standard. We had a private pool and solarium which was perfect for relaxing. Everything was very well thought out. The bed was very comfortable. The air-con worked perfectly and the whole place was quiet even walking around the hotel, it never felt busy or noisy. We were on half board so had breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast was great, a good buffet selection and also had made to order options. Everything was fresh and well presented. Dinner was à la cart every evening. The food was always beautifully cooked and plated. There was a lot of variety on the menu. We also had the special dining experiences which they offer on a Monday and Thursday which was superb. The trip was especially meaningful as we were celebrating a milestone birthday and the team at Royal River made it feel so special and we are so grateful for how well we were looked after. We are already looking at dates to return next year! If you are looking for somewhere peaceful, luxurious and relaxing Royal River is everything you could hope for. Fantastic hotel. Everywhere I looked made me smile. While this is an expensive hotel, the only thing that has been comparable for me in terms of decor and maintenance are places that cost 50% more. Stayed b&b. Breakfast was good. Lack of a menu of cooked dishes was surprising but not an issue for me. Highlight is the spa and rivers. While hotel was fairly full, there was never anyone in the indoor pool when I was there and the river pools were usually empty too. Gym was adequate but free weights limited and light. Hotel is not near anywhere so you will probably need a car as it’s a good 20 min walk to a rocky beach down steep roads. Good thing if you have a car is that even the garage is designed beautifully. Finally, if you like big plants (think banana tree size) you will love this place.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Royal River hotel to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday.Wow!wow!wow!…..couldn’t fault it.We stayed in ‘paradise villa’ and it was literally ‘paradise’.I thought long and hard at where we should ‘eat’ on his actual birthday and I went with the ‘Top Brasserie’ restaurant on the top floor of the hotel.The setting,the staff and the food were all ‘Top Class!’ A very special thank you to Daniela who went out of her way to ensure this trip was a trip to remember.

We booked the Royal River for our honeymoon and it was everything we could have wished for and more! From the moment we arrived the staff were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. What really stood out to us was the hotel’s efforts to create “experiences” during your stay. From the themed restaurant nights to live performances during weekend breakfasts, there was so much to appreciate. The hotel’s website captures the villas very well and the villas are even more spacious “in person”. The villas are very private and provide lots of outdoor space. In addition there are 2 large pools with loungers in public areas. We are both gluten free and there were options in the various restaurants and at breakfast. The staff were very helpful and were able to change a number of dishes to make them GF. The seaside town of Caleta is about a 30min (downhill) walk and its easy and cheap to get a taxi back to the hotel. There are a variety of seafood and other restaurants in the village and a small Spar. We had a wonderful honeymoon and would like to say a special thanks to Daniela and her team for everything they did.
