Location was about 5 mins drive from Vila Da Nova Devasas train station and 10 mins walk to Camara Gaia subway station. It’s not that close to Porto city centre. You got to Uber or walk everywhere. No free water in room unless you’re a Hilton Honors Silver member and above, and that’s only for the 1st bottle. Items like cotton pads and vanity kits were not restocked unless requested. Hand towels were also provided on the first day only. Dental kits have to be requested as well. Kinda disappointed based on the fact that it was a stay for our honeymoon but even so water was chargeable at 6 Euros per bottle because I was only a Blue HH member. Towel racks were not available, only hooks. Otherwise great service from the ground staff who could speak English except for a waitress who couldn’t understand “no ham no bacon” for our omelettes! Simple breakfast served daily. We were also given a small cake to celebrate. Thanks for the stay.

I recently stayed in Hotel Black Tulip. On the first morning I noticed that there weren't electrical points for using a shaver available in the bathroom . I reported this to the young man on reception-thinking this will take some time to fix/put right. Within minutes a repair man was knocking on the door. He set about replacing the unit on the wall and enabled the use of the electrical points. I was very impressed. Staff on reception were very helplful.
This hotel was located in Gaia just outside of Porto. I didn't realize that it was not in Porto but it turned out to be a blessing. The hotel was quiet, spacious and very easy to travel every day by uber to Porto. We visited during the Euro soccer world cup and watched one of the games in the large bar diner area. The hotel was comfortable enough and the beds too. We have requested a fully stocked kitchen since we planned to cook some meals. However the crockery and cutlery were not very good to use. They were very dated and we were not given any sharp knives, paper towels, dish soap or sponge to clean up. So we could barely cook. Strange how the refrigerator was located in the lounge instead of the kitchen area. Regardless, our stay was enjoyable.
Booked this hotel directly via the ITG website . Yes its in Vila de Gaia -on the other side of the river from Porto old town -but public transport is available close by and Uber rides are around 4 Euros .....or hotel can call a taxi for you . The hotel is host to some airline personnel ,tour groups .....and the odd football team (Benfica on this occasion ) turns up pre match . On this side of the river you are close to El Corte Ingles department store and Shopping Gaia shopping centre if retail therapy is your thing ....and there are some individual shops /supermarkets /restaurants /cafes close by . A few weeks before we were due to travel my husband broke his collar bone . I e -mailed the hotel to ask if we could have a room with a walk in shower just to make it a bit easier . Got a very quick reply from the hotel saying that they could certainly do that ......so not only did we have a room with a walk in shower ,we had a suite . It was just so spacious & comfortable and made our stay even more enjoyable . I cannot praise the staff in this hotel enough -reception , bar ,restaurants, housekeeping -all so helpful and friendly during our stay. Reception staff were so helpful in providing Information ,maps and directions and giving restaurant recommendations . The hotel was spotless and well maintained and our room was serviced daily. There was an excellent choice at breakfast -served between 7AM _10-30 . We had lunch /dinner in the hotel bar /restaurant a couple of times during our stay -mainly for convenience as we didn't have the best of weather during our stay and we enjoyed a ”nightcap ” in the hotel bar each evening . I didn't use the spa or gym /fitness facility on this occasion so can't really comment but note other reviews are positive . When planning our trip we did consider a few different hotels on the Porto side as well as some apartments but kept coming back to this hotel based on price & reviews -for us on this occasion we deffinately made the right choice and would stay here again .
In general, the room is clean and nothing more, but the rooms are rather ”tired”.
No slippers / bathrobes - and although this is the norm for a three-star hotel, nevertheless, the absence of even a soap dish for bar soap provided by the hotel itself is already interesting)
The shower cabin was leaking, we had to wipe the formed puddles with towels. At the junction of the cabin with ceramic tiles, black mold is possible, black plaque is possible, but most likely mold. In Portugal, the presence of mold is like snow in Russia in winter - for granted) But the water pressure in the shower was such that at least do yourself a hydromassage - I really liked it))
The mattress is quite hard, those who have a sore back are unlikely to appreciate it, but massive comrades will be very comfortable, the mattress practically does not slip.
There is a kettle and cardboard cups in the room which is a big plus.
For those who are interested - TV catches almost all possible channels.
Breakfast is typical European: yoghurts, muesli, sliced cheeses and ham, bread. sweet buns and pastries, boiled eggs, fruits, tea and coffee. Nothing special but you won't leave hungry. The cost of breakfast is 18 euros for two.
The location is a bit far from the center, but across the street from the metro, so getting there was no problem - 10-15 minutes by metro.
The huge advantages of the hotel are the new, beautiful view from the large floor-to-ceiling windows, and the proximity to the metro.
The breakfasts are just nothing special. I regretted that I paid for them once. The only thing I liked was the presence of freshly squeezed orange juice. Everything else is like in a cheap school cafeteria, everything falls out in a heap, everyone touches and takes it with their hands. The tomatoes are dirty (you can see it in the photo), I asked more than once to wash the tomatoes better, they nodded and the next day they were dirty again. So this is a health safety issue. The cheese is stuck together, people peeled it off with their hands, then how to eat it. The only hot thing is a strange-looking omelet, most likely made from powder, there are some sausages, but I am a vegetarian and there is nothing for vegetarians, nothing at all. I do not recommend taking breakfast in advance, take 1 on the spot, if you like it, continue buying at the reception. In general, they do not check who has and who has breakfast included, anyone can just come up and have breakfast, breakfast is served right in the lobby of the first floor at the reception.
The hotel is not bad, but I give low marks because the description of the breakfast on the website does not fully correspond to reality. And the fact that breakfast is dirty breakfast products. Including cutlery with dried food residue on them. Neither cheap nor expensive hotels should allow this, it is not a question of price, it is a question of health and attitude to a person.
