From the entrance to the way out, it is a terrible experience. They said the manager would be there from 4 to 6 pm...Wrong! he is rarely there. I arrived at 4:10 pm. People at the entrance cannot find the way to get the keys, you get the key in an envelope, and then you go through very dark and narrow stairs (see photo) that smell terrible (like rats). Later that night, you will find that it is true...rats between the floors and walls. They make noises during the night. The wall of the room are thin, and you can hear well from the other rooms. They offered me a room with a kitchenette, I prefer to cook myself when I have to be for more than a week in a location. The stove only warmed up the food. It took me one hour to cook one egg. The bed is uncomfortable, too small, and too cheap the mattress. The furniture is cheap. The utensils to cook are old, and the cabinet with them smells of humidity. The toaster is disgusting, you see the fungus inside (see photo). The bathroom is small and needs to be refurbished. There is no way to clean it anymore (see photo). The curtain is old and dirty with spots. Outside is not better. I arrived Sunday, the containers were full of trash. There was trash on the floor of the area too. The whole week, they did not collect it. You can see the photo of the Sunday when I, fortunately, had to go to a better place. The photos that they post are nothing like reality. I read in someone else post that he saw the rats running in the gardens... I was lucky, I did not.

I spent 4 nights at the Lodge Heverlee and never wanted to leave. Everything about the Hotel is beautiful, as well as the surroundings. Waking up to seeing the Arenberg Castle on the other side of the road was just wow! And the room was too perfect for words. Great breakfast, friendly and efficient staff, clean and comfortable. There is a bus stop 10 steps away from the front door. I was alone, on a business trip, but would gladly go back as a couple. 3*** is not nearly enough for this place! I would choose this Hotel over and over again!
Agree with previous reviews on the challenging (steep and narrow) climb up to the room. But if you are looking for a unique experience, quiet room (even though floors crack as we walk), feel like you are part of history with modern comforts (wifi, box tv with lots of channels, shower, toilet, fridge - all in one room by the way), this is the place. Very attentive and charming host serving breakfast and genuinely interested in who we are. The area around is perfect - walking distance to town and KU Leuven Campus Arenberg.
II had a pleasent stay and enjoyed your efficient and friendly service. The room was very clean and had all the accessoires I would need. Your transport advice for the airport was very précise. The breakfast package you prepared for us vas ready at our 06:45 departure.
I used to stay in a luxury hotel in Southeast Asia and felt very ordinary when I first stayed. It wasn't until I moved to the next ibis that I found out how luxurious this hotel is! Safflower needs a green leaf lining! Next door Ibis is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at! No facilities, the beds are gray! breakfast! ? Laughing personally.
We are a group of 5 experienced Mexican travelers. Twice have we stayed at the ”Leuven City Hostel”, in order to catch the Rock Werchter Festival. The first one, 2 years ago, went well. The second one, was the worst experience of our lives. The morning of June the 30th, we were woken up by some loud bangs onto our room door: it was the Police. They were accusing one of our friends of having stolen an iPhone 6 from the restaurant in front called Sarah's where we had breakfast a day before. They claimed they had ”irrefutable evidence” in the form of video footage proving the felony. They were demanding to give the phone up or they would search the room. We were so confused and intimidated but we had nothing to hide so we cooperated. By that moment we were scared and anxious about what was gonna happen next. Our friend was in shock repeatedly stating she had not stolen the phone. I want to provide a little background about ourselves: we are respectful, working people. We don't need to steal nor does it match our morals. So we were shook. How did this happened? We carry newer and more expensive phones than an iPhone 6, we brought Nikon cameras, tablets and Nintendo Switch devices with us. It's stupid to think we will risk everything by stealing in another country. And then be stupid enough to steal at the place where we are spending the night! It doesn't make sense. During the search, the Police were realizing that the whole accusation didn't make sense either based on our belongings, we do not fit a criminal profile. Also one of the officers spoke Spanish and was secretly listening to our conversation which proved further we had nothing to hide. By the time they were done with the search, they didn't find anything (obviously) they proceeded to take our friend to the police station to make a statement. We agreed to meet them there. Here's where it got messier: The Police had left when the owner/manager came to us and started yelling at us. He went out of his way calling us criminals, liars, claimed we were dangerous and kicked all of us out or he would call the police again. He said we had 5 minutes to pack and leave. Can you imagine? 5 minutes? After the police search, all of our belongings were mixed and on the floor. We might have left some stuff behind we don't know it yet. We understand the position of the owner to make us leave because of the ”negative image” they were giving the other guests and neighbors by keeping us there, HOWEVER, he acted completely insane, rude and arrogant for an unresolved situation. It was truly scary. He was completely certain of our friend's fault and that was pretty strange. Now: we never doubted our friend, but we were taken aback by the fact that they had ”evidence of the crime”; perhaps she took it by mistake, I thought, or maybe they confused her very own IPhone 6S with the stolen one... Anyway we cooperated and left the place.. By the time we arrived to the Police station, we were
The breakfast is relatively rich, with a lot of spread spread on bread, milk, coffee, and juice. The bread in the morning is still hot. It's great. The front desk service is good, although I live on the fourth floor but there is an elevator to worry-free the whole journey. The hotel has a hundred years of history and is worth living. Looking across it is the railway station square!
