Hotel Lo Smeraldo

"I chose Puglia because the region seemed to offer me a lot and it did. The hotel is quietly located on a hill surrounded by a nature reserve. Unfortunately the walls between the rooms were paper thin so you could hear every sound in the room next to you: talking, phone calls, snoring, moving chairs etc... not very soothing. The acoustics in the dining rooms were also very poor and when there are many people, people can barely hear each other because of the noise. The swimming pool was closed despite the nice temperatures around 25°C. I would not recommend taking a short walk in the surrounding forests because from 5 am you will be woken up by hunters who shoot down songbirds and migratory birds during this period (they are still sleeping and it is easier), even on Sundays. These hunts are banned in Europe but are still done en masse in Puglia!!! Why then 2 stars: the staff was very friendly and the rooms were very clean."

"I was in Villa Cenci as a tour leader for a big group reunion from Poland; we had a two day cycling tour around the trulli area. The place is really fantastic, with a large garden and a swimming pool, ideal for a peaceful stay in the countryside; it is located close to many attractive places of Puglia. The staff was really welcoming and professional. The food was excellent at breakfast and at dinner. Highly recommended."
