This was the best hotel experience I've had in a long time, the service and staff were incredible very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful we will be back to experience the rest of the amenities that the hotel has to offer,we had a full schedule to achieve and had limited time to get the full experience .

Overall nice but watch out for their billing. I’ve stayed twice and they over-billed me both times! Keep all your receipts and watch charges on your credit card transactions like a hawk. Particularly watch out for extra charges at the pool being added to your bill after you’ve signed. When I complained they corrected the errors in all the cases. But most folks probably wouldn’t notice the extra charges.

My husband and I have been staying at the Umstead Hotel since it opened in 2007. The service is impeccable; the rooms are gorgeous and the pool (and pool service) and spa are amazing. Top tier service throughout the property. The restaurant, Heron’s, is one of a kind- just like the hotel. We love the wonderful mix of art, nature and ambience. We also enjoyed tea with their harpist playing and Robert in the lounge. Highly recommend!

My husband and I celebrated my birthday at the hotel. It was truly a wonderful way to commemorate another year. The hotel staff, from the valet, to the lobby/check-in personnel, to the service crew in the restaurants, all were professional, genuine, and accommodating. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone to celebrating a special event, or to simply get away and relax.

What a wonderful surprise – this hotel is extremely well run with an emphasis on pleasing guests. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and acknowledged, and assisted in every possible way. What stands out most for me in this hotel is the cleanliness. This seems to be a lost art in the hospitality business – housekeeping. Although this hotel is several years old, my room was absolutely immaculate and stayed that way during the entire visit from the showers to the sinks to the bed to the bar area. Everything was immaculate. Turn down service in the evening was very nice with exceptional detail to replacing used items tidying up and making the room comfortable - I don’t see this anymore in five star hotels. Small things like cleaning glasses and leaving the cleaning cloth behind for use, replenishing, complementary water, and preparing the bed. By the way, the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve stayed in - in many years. I was unaware of any nice hotels in the Raleigh Durham area so it was very surprised too See this Hotel and I will certainly be back.

The room was large and comfortable, with two tables and a sofa in the bedroom and a nice ensuite bathroom with a good shower. I measured the WiFi at 39 Mbps download and 38 Mbps upload, so perfectly respectable if not exactly racy. The breakfast here was good, made to order. The staff I encountered weee helpful and polite. There is an outside terrace for drinks and a pretty lake with a circular walk around it just in the hotel grounds. Alternatively there is a gym, though this is a less scenic way to burn calories. The Umstead is an excellent hotel based on this and my previous stay here a year ago.
