"This hotel was a huge disappointment. I have no idea how it got a 4-star rating. On the positive side, the view is lovely, and the room was clean (apart from the ants everywhere). The staff answered questions, breakfast was decent, and the gym was incredibly well-equipped, though I couldn't use it because the ventilation was completely non-existent. I felt like I'd pass out after just 10 minutes of checking out the equipment. As for the negatives: the room lacked basic amenities (only soap was provided). If you go to reception and ask for anything, they'll send you to the gym where you can get slippers for 5 euros a day. On the first night, the air conditioning wasn't cooling, and despite it being January, it was incredibly stuffy. There were ants all over the room, even in the fridge. Check-in was a nightmare – if you arrive by car and park in the always-full lot in front of the hotel to unload your luggage, the staff won't allow it, let alone offer to help. They told me I could only leave the car for 5 minutes while they processed papers, but wouldn't let me take my bags to the room, nor did they offer to have hotel staff bring them up while I looked for parking. They told me to leave my belongings in the lobby and go find paid parking wherever I could. They gave me a confusing parking map that was impossible to decipher in a second, and said the nearest parking was by a shop, where there were no free spots. I ended up driving around the area. They never mentioned the parking on the other side of the hotel, which offers easy access directly to the lifts. So, if you decide to stay here, there are both free and paid parking spots down the street to the right of the hotel (the paid parking is cheap)."

"Fantastic hotel! Location right by the ocean, free shuttle bus to the center of Funchal, ala carte themed restaurant, delicious food - varied and a lot of seafood, all inclusive works flawlessly - I don't know which sangria is better red or white. Rooms spotlessly clean functional large bathroom. In the evening, animations including Portuguese folklore - I greet Filip from the reception who stole the show :) Service at the highest level - If Madeira is for sure RIU. The view from the restaurant from the terrace is great. Not far from the hotel at the end of the boardwalk, you can go up the cliff off the trail."

"Stunning little villas in a quiet location with very comfortable beds and a pool. We had the pool to ourselves on each occasion which was amazing. The owner was also really helpful and accommodating. We would definitely return to this location too as it was almost like we were in the countryside but it was near to everything. Some great little restaurants around too."

"I felt compelled to write this review because we were so impressed with this hotel, a budget hotel that greatly surpassed our expectations. It is surrounded by it's own impressive tropical botanical garden and has a nice pool area. We were half board and we can only say good words about the range of breakfast and dinner food items, and as for the range and quality of deserts.. wow! . At a fairly competitive price point this is clearly not a Savoy but we felt it was better than 99% of expensive businesses hotels that my wife and I have stayed in around the world over our working careers. Room (1201) was fine.. pretty simple and straight forward layout, clean, good finish, a good size bathroom, small fridge and tea/coffee facilities. The rooms small balcony overlooked part of the garden with Flowers and Date palms etc and at night a lovely small gecko visited our balcony wall. Staff... All very professional, helpful and nice people. The hotel is set up on a hillside, there are supermarkets, a few restaurants, bakery and bus stop close and easy walking distance from the hotel. The walk down to the beach is a bit demanding, you need to be of ok fitness but it was good exercise. We swam in the sea .. among the clearest waters we've ever seen! Took bus to Funchal numerous times..(stops at the teleferico cable car terminal). €2.65 each way (just don't get 555 'rapido via express way back.. or you'll end up near the beach!. I saw a bad review due someone finding an insect or cockroach in their bathroom!. Well, it's surrounded by plants, wildlife, frogs, birds, monarch butterflies and of course some insects. Complain if you don't see some wildlife!, We saw nothing that would put us off or suggest there are any serious problems. Bottom line, we would go back tomorrow and recommend the hotel to anyone, we had a great enjoyable stay. Many thanks"
