I attended for 2 nights, where I normally use the Doubletree Hilton across the road but have been meaning to try the Aztec. Firstly the pros: food was actually excellent, staff were professional and helpful. The cons: The room (41) had a shower where the temperature pulsed between hot and cold every 30 seconds or so. The shower door had also dropped in it's frame so that, when closed, the top touched the frame so the bottom didn't close. This meant water ran down the door and flooded into the bathroom area. After cleaning this up, I spoke to the reception staff who moved me to room 31. Annoyingly the shower going hot and cold also happened here too. In itself I would've left a 3* review except when I searched for these issues on trip advisor, both issues had been previously reported by two separate guests months prior, with a bland canned response type message they'd be looked into. That's simply not acceptable. Other minor gripes that don't comprise a reason for the low score - The shower base of room 31 was dirty. The room power sockets are around 3m from the bed, with lamps etc., hardwired. So if you are planning on charging devices, bring a long cable. There's a fan but no aircon, which for a purpose built modern hotel, whilst not explicitly stated, is kind of expected. Breakast required booking at a set time, which was unusual as for a breakfast buffet I'd normally expect the flexibility to turn up when I choose rather than specifying a time. I didn't manage to get a table at the restaurant as on the first night it was booked out and the second night I planned an early meal but the restaurant doesn't open till 6:30pm. Food served in the bar I assume came from the same kitchen and I'd say was very good as was the service. Honestly as a whole the hotel is let down by poor facilities and management choices benefit the hotel resourcing at the cost of customer convenience. For me this was a notch up from a travel lodge but probably below a premier inn, which given the £189 per night paid (admittedly on short notice) was simply not good enough. I've no intention on returning, but want to make people aware that issues reported by others over a period of months have not been addressed.

Stayed at The Lodge one night. Probably one of the busiest Saturdays of the year, also 32c temperatures. Our stay went as planned, but on a whim two days earlier we’d decided to book the Aztec restaurant (Curious Kitchen) online just in case, and got the last table reservation (6.30pm). When we finished our meal and left there were queues at the restaurant entrance and some people (not booked) were being turned away. We went back to the bar for a drink at 9pm and tempers seemed to be fraying, there was a waiting list for drinks. Not enough staff? As mentioned in other reviews and also for the main hotel next door (Aztec) the staff are all super friendly, polite and professional. The little onsite pub (Black Sheep) is lovely. The young girl serving when we arrived at 3.30 in the afternoon was charming and efficient. She was back to open up at 8am Sunday for breakfast, and was again bubbly and very professional. No AC in The Lodge. The smallish fan was OK but not ideal. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. The shower pulsed to very cold for a few seconds every minute or so. Weird malfunction. You just had to predict it coming and step away until it pulsed back to warm. Altogether a good experience, but seemed unprepared and under staffed for a full occupation first weekend of the summer holidays with scorching hot weather.

Room let down an amazing hotel! When we arrived to check in we were told our room had been double booked. The girl at the desk was very helpful and apologetic (checkin at aztec hotel and spa across the road). She said she would "upgrade us" to one of their hotel rooms with no extra charge, and gave us free parking and a bogof for breakfast, which was very much appreciated! The service was fantastic. We were given room 126 in the aztec hotel and spa, as the lodge that we booked our room in was full. When we entered the room. It was VERY old and dated and had a very musty smell. The room was large with a desk, bathroom, tv and sofa.the furniture was old, dusty and dated. The bathroom was very old, had rust on the rings that held the shower curtain. Dirty marks on the bath & taps. Mildew on the bath. It was late when we arrived so we just got into bed. (which was comfortable and clean thankfully!) The breakfast in the morning was fantastic, staff were wonderful and attentive. When i looked on the website at pictures of the rooms, they were lovely ! The room we stayed in didnt seem to be pictured. The hotel and spa, food and staff were all so fantastic. But they were heavily let down by the poor quality of room 126!!.( i feel the double room i had originally paid for at the bristol lodge looked so much nicer and cleaner in the pictures i saw on their website). I would actually stay at the aztec hotel and spa again. But would definitely ask for one of the rooms pictured on the website!
