Hotels with Breakfast in Shantou

We chose this hotel primarily for its proximity to the Shantou railway station. The night prior, we stayed at a nearby Hampton but had a disappointing experience, so this was our first stay with a local Chinese chain brand. Check-in was smooth and efficient, although no English was spoken at the front desk. We had requested a higher-floor, quieter room via WeChat in advance and were initially assigned Room 602. Upon entering, the room appeared clean and well-maintained. However, we encountered an unusual and inconvenient issue with the Wi-Fi. Guests are instructed to turn on the TV to access the Wi-Fi password, but we discovered that the TV must remain on in order for the Wi-Fi to function. This was confirmed by multiple staff members, including what appeared to be a front desk supervisor. This setup was quite disruptive, as the TV screen is bright and cannot be dimmed, and the work desk is positioned directly in front of it. To their credit, Ms. Lin—responded promptly and offered to move us to another room (also 602, but with a different layout). The new layout was more practical, with the desk positioned at a 90-degree angle from the TV, which helped mitigate the issue somewhat. That said, the second room had its own drawback: there was a noticeable gap in the window, which allowed in road noise. Since we stayed over the weekend, traffic noise and honking were quite noticeable at night. In addition, we heard neighbors chatting and laughing past midnight. Lotion could be a nice addition too. A small humidifier with scented oil definitely gave a zen touch. Aside from these two issues (Wi-Fi dependency on the TV and sound insulation), the overall stay was comfortable. As a gesture of goodwill, the hotel provided complimentary breakfast. While we are not typically breakfast eaters, we did try the noodle station. The offerings were entirely Chinese-style. One suggestion would be to label the protein options more clearly (in Chinese or English), as we observed multiple guests asking staff about them—one of which turned out to be pig’s heart. Overall, this was a good introduction to a Chinese domestic hotel brand. I learned that they got a few locations in Europe. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in technology setup and soundproofing, the service recovery effort and general room quality made for a satisfactory stay.

This was an excellent stay. The Origin hotel series is the high end range of the Atour group. It is hence higher end than the S or Light range of Atour hotels, but still fairly priced and good value for money by international standards. In general, Atour is a reliable and familiar choice for those who enjoy a pleasant, reliable service standard and clean, well appointed rooms. The Origin hotels, including this one in Shantou, go a bit further with nicer finishings, a slightly more elevated ambience, and some specials like comfortable room loungewear, nicer toiletries and a wider variety of complimentary snacks and beverages. I find it difficult to assess location for hotels in China, especially in the larger cities, because there is no single city centre and it really depends what people are looking for. Because ride hire DiDi cars are so plentiful, fast and affordable (for now) in China, I don't find location a huge consideration because everything is a 10 to 20min comfortable car ride away. So instead I will describe the neighbourhood, which is a typical town fringe suburb, 2 to 3 storey shophouse buildings, safe and not noisy. It is not in a dense city centre area with tall skyscrapers. Supermarkets and amenities are close by. It is a good balance for me. The only downside I experienced was Atour's policy of requiring a local China mobile number to register for hotel wifi service. Obviously, international tourists will mostly not have this. Most eSIMs do not come with phone numbers. This is Atour's broader policy, and is not a service lapse of this hotel itself. If guests do not have a Chinese mobile number, the front desk staff need to use their mobile numbers to register on your behalf. They will happily do this, but it means you need to stand in the middle of the check in counter and take out all your tablets, phones, laptops etc for them to complete the registration for you in each device. To me, this is unnecessary friction and it is not a Chinese government requirement because the international chains I have stayed in, such as the St Regis, do not require a domestic Chinese mobile to access the wifi. Nonetheless, kudos to the hotel service team for helping us in an uncomplaining way.

I specifically chose this hotel as it's newly opened this year. The room amenities and facilities are very new, clean, and hygienic. The location is excellent, right at the intersection of Zhujiang Road, making it very convenient for dining out. The lobby is on the second floor; just take the elevator up. Upon check-in, you receive Americano coffee vouchers, which can be upgraded to other drinks for an additional charge. The coffee is freshly ground and extracted using a semi-automatic coffee machine. Although the beans are quite ordinary, it's decent enough for a latte. I also saw fitness equipment and a laundry room, but we didn't get to use them.

Overall, the stay was quite impressive. The room was spacious and comfortable (great for kids to play in), the hygiene was meticulously maintained, and room service was highly efficient. Plus, we had a fantastic sea view directly from our room. A special shout-out to the young lady with braids and glasses at the front desk – she was incredibly thoughtful and meticulous during check-in, with a delightful smile and attentive service. The breakfast variety was decent, and it was a nice touch that cutlery was already set on the tables. However, there's still room for improvement: the restaurant staff lacked proactivity, often passing guests without greeting them, and dish collection wasn't prompt enough. Some food details were also overlooked; there was no strawberry jam for the toast, and when I asked the chef on duty, the reply (just two words: ”We don't”) was rather cold. Also, there was no milk or ice available at the coffee machine. As a Sheraton, an international brand under Marriott, while appreciating the local touches, I hope they can align with the group's unified service standards and further optimize their service awareness and dining amenities. Despite these points, it was still a good stay overall.

Exceeded expectations in every way! I was a bit worried at first since it was our first time staying in a local hotel in China instead of a big chain hotel, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. We were warmly greeted by the staff, who explained everything we needed to know, and they were very considerate and helpful throughout our stay. The service was professional, and the cleanliness of the place was excellent. If you’re looking for a place within walking distance of the old town cultural area, this is absolutely the place for you!

The hotel is newly opened and has a great overall ambiance. The hygiene conditions are excellent, and the room details are well thought out, including a mini-fridge and tea-making facilities. The bathroom is a highlight with its high-tech toilet and excellent toiletries, and the water pressure for showering is fantastic and very comfortable! The front desk staff are enthusiastic, always ready to answer questions, and genuinely think of the guests' needs! There's free coffee and tea on the first floor of the hotel, which are quite good! The rice noodle roll place next to the hotel is also good, and it's not far from Zhujiang Food Street, which is very convenient!

Kevin at the front desk was very welcoming, the environment was good, and the breakfast was great. I stayed for two consecutive days and it was excellent. I also recommend Sixi restaurant across the street, the food was good and the staff were all very friendly. ❤️

My kids love the room and it becomes one of the great memories in shantou! The host is responsive and responsible and very helpful. It's very good experience staying there and enjoy the great services.

This hotel was a true gem we discovered on our trip, hands down the best of the entire journey! The staff scheduling is very thoughtful; the morning shift has three lovely ladies who are gentle and patient, while the evening shift is handled by dedicated staff. Breakfast deserves a special mention – the 'kuey teow' (flat rice noodles) was amazing. The food selection is comprehensive, clean, and hygienic. The bedding in the rooms is neat and comfortable, and the parking lot is spacious with plenty of spots, so no stress about parking. The lobby has a pleasant aroma, and the air conditioning temperature is just right. Even the public walkway to the affiliated BBQ restaurant is meticulously clean, with no grease or stains, showing excellent attention to hygiene details. My stay here was fantastic, and I highly recommend this hotel to all my friends in Guangzhou!

No regrets paying more for this beautiful homestay! 花多点钱住这里一点遗憾也没有！ My parents, sibling and I stayed for a total of 3 nights in their 4 pax room. It’s a beautiful and tastefully decorated accommodation with personal courtyard and interior. Bed and duvet were so comfortable especially in the chilly weather of 18 ~ 22 degrees. I didn’t spot anything obvious I can complain about regarding the cleanliness of this place, hence 5/5 for cleanliness. Location is perfect (5/5). Next to streets of food places that have good ratings, and super near 万象城 shopping mall (restaurants, luxury shops, retail and more). Anyways cabbing around Shantou is really convenient, fast, and affordable. Even though it is nested amongst other tall residential area, once we close the door we couldn’t hear much noise from outside. Service is 5/5 as well. There’s free pickup and drop off serviced from the railway station. There’s daily fresh fruits delivered to us, as well as chicken soup. There’s also free laundry service which we really appreciate! Staffs were always ready to help and always ready to give recommendations. We really felt their hospitality and they are genuine in providing best service possible. Amenities is 5/5 as well. The hair dryer is Laifen brand which is so strong and sleek looking. They provide disposable towels on top of those reusable towels. Their slippers are fluffy and comfy. They have like everything we need. Bonus: Their residential cat and her kittens are adorable!!! All in all wonderful stay and would stay again if i ever visit Shantou again. Suggestions for improvement: (1) more variety in breakfast options (stayed for 3 nights and felt that some breakfast options would be great), and (2) the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are a little too hard to pour out maybe can consider using press bottles.
