Ibis Bordeaux Centre Bastide

Room Quality: Guests frequently highlighted clean, spacious, and comfortable rooms with modern amenities like double-glazed windows for noise reduction. Many appreciated the quiet environment, though a few mentioned insufficient lighting in certain areas.

I don’t recommend staying at this hotel. The curtain in my room had a stain. The floor and seats at the hotel reception had stains too. I have provided photos to show this. I believe this is seen as acceptable at this hotel. The room was worn out, there were scuff marks on the wall and headboard of the bed. The bathroom looked clean but had a bad smell, even after being cleaned. Your room won’t be cleaned regularly unless you ask for this, and I don’t mean changing sheets, I mean cleaning the room in general. I didn’t have much interaction with hotel staff but they were polite for the brief moments I spoke with them. The only good thing was the breakfast. The state of cleanliness for this standard of hotel was shocking and I advise others not to stay here.

I booked a room direct on the Ibis website at the promotional rate of €39 (yes, €39) per night. For such a bargain, I could not possibly fault the hotel in any way, and while I would not recommend this or any other Ibis property to anyone looking for luxury, or character, or French chic, this is certainly Ibis at its best. Terrific value for money. La Bastide may not be the most exciting neighbourhood in Bordeaux, but it is safe and quiet, with plenty of free on street parking. The hotel is a mere 5 minute walk to the Stone Bridge (Pont de Pierre) leading right into the cobbled streets and twisting alleys of Old Bordeaux. For those too lazy to walk, trams stop at Place de Stalingrad, just before crossing the bridge into town. The Bordeaux Bastide is a typical Ibis property of the newer, more modern generation. Rooms are quite a comfortable size, bright and airy, simply furnished in contemporary style, complete with air con and a flat TV screen with a selection of international channels (only BBC World in English). Bathrooms are very small, with shower only, making the most of the limited space. The promotional rate I got did not include breakfast, perhaps slightly overpriced at €8. Still, the buffet was pretty decent, with plenty to choose from including cereal, yoghurt, fruit, cheese and meat cuts, fruit juice, pastries, toast, and tea or coffee. I was happy to pay the extra for the convenience of not having to venture out of the hotel for breakfast first thing in the morning.
