Hotel Sommeiller ★★★

"A truly Aweful stay, if management spent money on renovations and cleaning it could be okay. Upon arrival at 10:15pm we were charged a €25 late check in fee, for a hotel at 10:15???? The front door was secured with a chain and lock at night. The first room we were offered had black mould behind the bedside lockers(found it because I was looking for a plug), blood or a brown stain on the wall, a carpet with many dark marks of dirty on it. I immediately requested something else, we were given a new room, which was less unacceptable though it had a similar stained carpet, a foul smell from the drains(we had to buy a bathroom fragrance and leave window open-in January!) the old springs in the beds made quite a racket. Our children were in the room above us, they had no stains on the carpet but a parquet wooden floor which creaked with the slightest touch-we could tell when they were awake. Breakfast(the reason I booked🙈): the breakfast cappuccino in the bar was good for the first two midweek days, the food accompanying it was not pleasant, semi stale apricot croissants and stale breakfast cereal. Unfortunately breakfast moved to the “restaurant”🤣 at the weekend, the coffee machine was disgusting and appeared to have not been cleaned, white floating debris in your coffee is not a good sign! The remainder of the food was the same as midweek-bad! Go self catering it will be better (anything will be better!!) The rolled cigarette butt stayed on the fire alarm switch during our stay, no cleaning and suggests a dangerous disregard to guests safety. AVOID this place."

"Just had a great 5 night stay at Villa Linda. Frederica was so helpful with our booking. The apartment was spotless, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher. Fantastic shower. Powerful hairdryer, loads of towels and extra quilts. A few minutes walk from restaurants and easy to get the shuttle bus to the slopes. Would 100% recommend for a family ski break."

"This 'Casa Per Ferie' is perfectly situated about 900m from the railway station and 400m from the Campo Smith ski lift along a flat, straight pavemented, easily-walkable road - though the free buses 1,2,3,4 and 7 also all go by and there's a bus-stop right beside it. (You can also walk up viale San Francesco to Bardonecchia's main shopping street in about 850m.) It's a former Franciscan monastery, with parking and lots of ground out the back, and rooms with communal terraces looking out at the mountain. There are some religious sculptures (a nice one of St Francis with a sheep, for instance), but otherwise it's plainly decorated. The clean and well-organised rooms have good wifi and all other mod cons (except a TV, but I was OK about that) and plenty of hooks. The ski locker is right by the front door rather than (as often) in a cellar. We had half-board for our six-night stay and they coped very well with us being pescatarian. Bottled water and wine is payable extra but extremely cheap compared with most places. But it's the staff who really make the place special: they were kind and friendly and helpful beyond the normal 'good service' of a hotel; we were quite overawed by their hospitality, and their generosity. Downsides? Breakfast has lots of cakes, beware! That's all I can think of!"
