Overall, it's great. The location is a bit far from downtown, but you can walk there easily, and there's an IGA mart nearby, so it's convenient. There's also a bus stop right nearby.
I thought the bedding was clean, but... when I lifted the comforter sheet, I saw something that wasn't very good underneath, and... well... I guess it can't be helped because it's a hostel. However, when I told them that the sheets were dirty during my stay and that I wanted to change them, they gladly gave me new ones.
You can use the kitchen as you like, but the dishes aren't very clean, so it's better to wash them and use them again. And there are a lot of people staying, so it's a bit crowded.
The heating in the room is really strong, so you don't have to worry about the cold. For laundry, tell the lobby staff and give them to them, and they'll wash and dry them and fold them for you. The price was $10. The nearby coin laundry is a bit cheaper, but considering the convenience, the hostel is okay (the washing machine is a bit dirty... if you feel uncomfortable, I recommend using the coin laundry).
It can't be helped that it's a hostel, but instead, all the common areas close at 11 o'clock, so it's quiet in the middle of the night. I went during the off-season, so it didn't feel that noisy. For reference, the 6-person female room is close to the common areas. The beds do creak when there's someone above them.
Still, if you get breakfast included at a low price in Banff, you can put up with all the inconveniences. The breakfast menu is the same every day, but it's still delicious.
There are some very friendly staff members and some who are a bit blunt. Still, it's a hostel where they're generally friendly and satisfactory.
