Padre Hotel

This hotels AC did NOT work in our room lept us up. This hotel does not have a pool. The AC in the bar did not work. House wine tasted awful.This hotel is NOT worth $170. If this is a four star hotel I have four noses!!

We selected the Padre Hotel on account of the excellent reviews here on Tripadvisor. However, at the time of booking, I was not aware of any weird stuff going on at the hotel. My colleague alerted me to that fact upon check-in. The hotel is in the smacking middle of downtown, but there was not really a downtown as I had expected. The town was totally empty when we walked around at 7 pm. Nobody on the streets, all businesses, the theatre, everything was either closed for the day or available for lease. The hotel itself was great. The rooms were clean. The 40 Winks room is a little smaller than the Maverick, but both rooms are just fine. Both have a very comfortable King-size bed with great cotton bedding. The Maverick has a lounge chair which the 40 Winks is lacking. Other than that, both rooms have walk-in showers with a large shower head and great water pressure. The wallpaper in the halls is a little creepy, but that is all part of the ambience. The staff at the hotel is fabulous. Super friendly and accommodating. In terms of location: there are 3 cell towers within about 300 feet of the hotel. If you are sensitive to that or concerned about that, maybe this hotel is not for you. Now, for all you thrill seekers: Apparently, there is at times something going on in the hotel that is a little off. I usually don’t believe in things like that, but I can honestly say that I can now speak to that. I was in room 718, and there was a weird knock coming out of the sink, not the pipes, but the sink. I recorded it and showed it to the staff. They assigned me a different room and all was fine. So, if you are into things like this, the 7th floor is where you want to stay. I was moved onto the 8th floor and slept wonderfully! Overall, I would absolutely stay there again, maybe just not on the 7th floor

The Padre Hotel never disappoints! This is always our first choice. When we are visiting family in Bakersfield. The hotel is clean and the lobby is luxurious. We love the marble staircase with the original tiles. The staff is wonderful. The restaurant was fantastic. Our waitress in the restaurant was darling.!! Super busy but so cheerful and even remembered my drink from previous day! The gals at the front desk were helpful when I had questions they provided notch service. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Bakersfield.

Central location. Nice hotel with an historical vibe. Comfy bed. Big room (we had a Maverick). Generally quiet. Could use more lighting especially in the bathroom. Lacking some bathroom amenities. Could use a little more careful cleaning. Caulking around bathroom sink was dirty. Carpets not well vacuumed. Otherwise a very nice hotel!

Absolutely valet your vehicle if you have to stay here. Mine was parked literally outside the front door and was still broken into. I can’t imagine I’ve been the first victim yet no parking advice was provided by the staff while checking in. The valet lot was publicly accessible at ground level as well so I figured I was just as safe on the street literally in front of the lobby doors. No such luck.
