Grand Hotel Cannigione

GHC is a small independently operated hotel on the edge of the town of Cannigione. Immaculately clean hotel rooms, recently renovated and well equipped (coffee machine - not always the case in Italy). Good evening turndown service. Pool / beach towels provided on request. Super soft linens. Bed was very hard (but from my experience this is fairly std in Italy) we had room 126 which was a garden room with balcony. Would highly recommend this as we had a small outdoor patio area and garden beyond....for me the pool view rooms would have not been enjoyable as no privacy (unless you close the curtains) and the pool area is very compact. Also I would think some of the rooms could be noisy from the corridor on the ground floor. Breakfast had a massive selection of hot and cold food....yes you have to pay for eggs to order and juices to order but you can survive without this. The pool area is very compact and we never stayed there as the pool was freezing....we never went in it and never saw anyone swim with it being so cold and I think this is something the hotel should review to heat. The swim platform was closed (annoying) due to it being end of season but the Tanca Manna beach club was great. The shuttle service is every 30 Mins and whilst we had a car would recommend the shuttle as parking is paid (10euro / day). Comfy loungers, towels and basic drinks available. There is no food at the beach....it is ordered from the hotel and brought via shuttle which seemed excessive for us. Also there is no toilet...you can use the Blue Shark snack bar toilet if you buy a drink there. We often had a few drinks at lunch time and used the facilities (be aware this is a squatting loo, but clean and tidy!) The beach service was a massive plus as you will find parking is a nightmare at popular beaches, is expensive and sunbed / parasol rental on other beaches is usually 35euro upwards, or more like 80pc or if you want a proper beach club with restaurant / toilet facilities. Beach is beautifully clean, water amazing and has a life guard. It's a great location in quiet part of town. Five minutes to multiple restaurant and bars with plenty of choice for the week we were there. Why I didn't give 5? For a five star a few things lacking - at least some water for free in room / reception - there wasn't even any in the gym! Pool was too cold to use. Concierge service non existent / patchy when you asked things. However would still highly recommend especially as this was substantially cheaper than many other hotels in the area and the location / ability to walk into the small town was fantastic

Beware of this hotel! They will try to sneak extra charges on to your bill and then they will lie about them literally. I’ve never seen anything like it. Amazed that this is a 5 star hotel. Definitely find a different hotel.

Great stay! We had a great time. The beach is amazing, accessible, and private. It was easy to rent a car and park for free, and driving to nearby towns like Porto Cervo was easy and quick. Cannigione itself had many dining options as well. The staff was extremely helpful and nice at the hotel, and the pool and gym were nice.

Very poor value for money. Try to extract money from you by sitting you at the restaurant and trying to get you o order their overpriced food before they give you the room key. The bed was stiff and felt cheap and old, the decor was dated and the sheets were stained. The AC didn't work, I brought this together with the stained AC to their attention and they didn't do anything to rectify, not even a free drink. The hotel is located at the back of the town. Would not stay here again. It is not up to the standard you would expect of a 4 star hotel anywhere else in the world, let alone 5 star. I ordered a Cesar salad from their restaurant and it is truly the saddest salad you've ever seen.

The hotel was very clean. The waiting staff were phenomenal. The reception personnel were helpful but unfortunately upon check out many charges were charged that were never ordered or used. Transfers to and from hotel were told to us by many staff members behind the desk one price but upon check out almost triple was charged for this service. We were told that each transfer to the beach was $18 euros per way but upon check out we were charged $80 Euros for these transfers per day. If we were told this we would have not used this service. This is very deceitful coming from the reception desk staff. When we confronted about these charges upon check out, we were told that we misunderstood, how can that be if 3 different receptionists told us the exact same amount each time we asked for this service. We are extremely disappointed and upset. We spent quite a bit of money to stay at this 5 star hotel. Lesson learned to have information in writing and not verbal communication.
