Meru View Lodge

This German-run hotel is quietly located and offers a charming little beer garden. From 4 pm, complimentary coffee and cake are served, which is a nice touch. The rooms are spacious, especially the bathrooms, and the terrace with garden view is perfect for relaxing outside. The beds were soft but a bit worn, and WiFi is only available in the restaurant and at reception. Breakfast was rather basic and lacked attention to detail. The hotel is less than 10 minutes from Arusha National Park, which is great for day trips. Dinner is served as a 3-course menu – decent value for money overall.

We only stayed one night to then fly to the Serengeti. The room was cozy and clean, the dinner was delicious and breakfast was abundant, with mostly fruit and veg grown in the lodge garden. All staff was also really friendly and welcoming, we would definitely recommend it!

Warm, smiling reception, with gratis juice served while processing my checkin. This serene lodge has its origins dating back approximately 70 years ago as a German compound. It has become a mature, East African arboretum with bungalows. Want to get outside of the hotel bubble … this peaceful, gated sanctuary is for you.

Meru View Lodge is a delightful oasis either before or after Safari. The rooms are clean ,with lots of hot water, and lovely front porches. The meals were remarkable in that every vegetable, fruit and meat is grown on the adjacent farm…even the coffee is from their plantation. We were warmly welcomed and felt welcome for our 2 1/2 day stay. The children swam to their heart’s content and only came out of the pool for the 4:00 unlimited cake and tea served daily. The gardens are full of flowers and plants that were exotic and beautiful. Really, this is such a fine lodge. My family of 6, ages ranging from 9-76, all highly recommend Meru View Lodge..

A beautiful botanical setting that reflects years of care in developing this property. We only stayed one night, but had great service...a huge breakfast that we weren't quite expecting, and a very comfortable cabin. The location is served by good roads, and is an easy half hour drive from Kilimanjaro airport. We would give 5 stars, except for the pool which needed some attention to cleaning.

We needed a place that was convenient to both the NP and to commerce and were recommended to try here when our first choice was not available. What luck. A truly nice place set in leafy gardens with lots of birds. A pool for those who do such things and private relaxing areas for those less energetic. Close to the Gate into Arusha National Park but on a tar road for ease of access to 'town'. The welcome and safety briefing was friendly and we were quickly shown to our bungalows to settle in after a long drive up, and down, the Usumbaras. Inside the door we found a nice clean sleeping area and a large comfortable bed with the bathroom area behind another internal door. This was fitted with modern clean facilities that provided H&C water etc., The main building contained a cosy lounge for relaxing or working the free Wiffy and a large spacious restaurant with outside seating areas too. The food was some of the best we had enjoyed on our four week trip and the service exceptionally friendly and efficient. We never hurry over meals and this never seemed to be rushed. Food was delicious and well presented. We had three nights here and spent one of them in the nearby National Park which is extremely pretty and full of wildlife. The second day we spent hanging loose at the Lodge enjoying the peace and quiet while our car was 'fixed' of a few minor problems. One evening we were joined by our Booking agent for a few beers which was nice way to prepare for dinner. All in all this place was good place to take a break away from the hustle of Arusha and the 'Safari circuit'. I would love to spend more time here.
