Clarion Suites Anchorage Downtown

We stayed two nights and had a relaxing stay in Anchorage. We called and let staff know that we would be early, and they allowed us to check in early. The breakfast was great both days. The bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious and very clean. The staff was very kind and helpful anytime we had questions. The hotel is several blocks from the center of downtown, and we were able to walk to everything we needed, such as the souvenir stores, Trolley Tour and the bike rental company.

We booked an overnight here knowing we would be arriving into Anchorage late and leaving early so literally needed a place to lay our heads for the night. The surrounding area is rundown (as is most of Anchorage) with some dodgy sorts wandering past the hotel, once inside the reception is nicely decorated and the lovely lady who checked us in and assisted with some photocopying was very welcoming. The room is very tired, the layout is odd being reminiscent of a 1980’s motel. But hey the air con worked, the shower was hot and there was a coffee machine so for the 12 hours we were there it wasn’t bad. Just remind yourself “this is Alaska” everything is expensive here so don’t judge the hotel price on what you’d pay elsewhere or you’ll feel stung!

The guest service at this hotel is disgraceful. We arrived late in the evening from Australia after many long flights and were checked in by an unfriendly guy who actually gave us keys to an occupied room . We had the very unpleasant experience of walking in on a couple and it must have been even worse for them . We returned to the front desk and was advised by the guy that he was completely new to the job and had no back up . He didn’t apologise until requested and then sent us to a lower grade room . Finally we got the right room and I requested to speak to a manager the following day . I heard nothing the following day and when I asked he hadn’t made any notes or left any requests that we be contacted . So I requested again that a manager contact us - we were also upset that our room was not serviced and no one had told us it was by special request only . We heard nothing and are still waiting for Haila to reply to my requests and numerous emails . All I heard from her was that she tried to call me but I had explained that we didn’t have an American SIM card so wanted to either speak to her while we were still in anchorage which was ignored , or by email . Still waiting to hear back . I have rated over 130 hotels on trip advisor and my average score is 4 . The service at this hotel is a disgrace and we are very sorry to have paid so much money to spend 2 nights in such a terrible place .

Don’t be fooled by the new exterior painting, this hotel is run down. The elevator isn’t safe. It broke while there. The keypads on the doors are falling apart. I had to reset my key 6 times. Once twice in a row and didn’t always open at first try. The carpet is sticky. Toiletries are very basic and poor quality. The whole thing felt like a motel. For $400 a night, I was expecting better. The staff wasn’t accommodating and on the rude side at times. Got an eye roll when I asked to have my bedroom moved away from the elevator, which didn’t happen because they were ‘sold’ out, yet when I attempted a new reservation for that day it was available. The only two good things are: the pillows are soft and the location is great.
