Marriott Anchorage Downtown

Renz at the executive lounge at the Downtown Marriott is fantastic! Super attentive! A very nice, laid back atmosphere with an awesome view!

I stayed with the family for 2 nights in August in a standard room with 2 double beds. I looked at a few other hotels as well and the Marriott Downtown seemed a bit better than most other options, at least those within the Marriott family. I booked my stay using points. STANDARD ROOM: this was generously spaced with plenty of room for 2 double beds. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and well maintained. We were on one of the higher floors and there was a nice view over downtown plus the waterfront. Bedding was comfortable. The bathroom was on the smaller side but it was otherwise fine. LOUNGE: as I am merely a Bonvoy Gold member, I was surprised to be offered free access to the lounge on the top floor of the hotel. This is only open on weekdays. We used this for breakfast one day, which was largely continental with a couple of hot items. The lounge wasn’t that busy on the day. PARKING: definitely avoid using the hotel’s $36/day valet service. Anchorage is full of parking! Street parking at pay meters is free from 6pm to 9am and there were always plenty of spaces available. If needed, there is massive “EasyPark” car park one block from the hotel which charges $2/hour. You can’t miss it. STAFF: very friendly and personable, definitely punching above the level of the physical property. CONCLUSION: a basic and dated property, but it was fit for purpose and we didn’t have any issues with our stay. The location seemed convenient with several restaurants and cafes within a 5-10 minute walk. Cash rates of around $750/night felt a bit extreme, but it was a better deal on points (at 1 cent per point). From what I could see the general standard of hotels in Anchorage is fairly low while (summer) prices are high, so visitors to the city should set their expectations accordingly.

The service in the concierge found was excellent every day for breakfast. Everything was fresh and clean. The extra attention to detail was much appreciated.

We enjoyed the location and ease of walkability to anything we needed or wanted. Room was very clean and spacious as was the rest of the hotel. The coffee spot in the lobby was excellent! The 14th floor offered a great view and all staff were pleasant and helpful.

We have an awesome time. The hotel is great. The executive lounge was phenomenal. Renz did a great job helping us and recommending area attractions and restaurants. Alaska has a liquor law where you cannot use vouchers for alcohol if you are given one, use it for food or take the points.
