Hostels in Canterbury, New Zealand

This was the first place I stayed when I arrived in NZ for my working holiday. It's very centrally located, the staff were incredibly friendly, and it was a fantastic place to stay.

Pros: The location is superb; it's probably the closest accommodation to Lake Tekapo, right in the heart of the tourist area. It's an easy walk to all the restaurants and the Church of the Good Shepherd. The hygiene is good, the room is very clean, and although the facilities are basic, they meet essential needs. There's a shared kitchen and a common lounge area with beautiful lake views. It's very popular, and both check-in and check-out are convenient. The bathroom is quite spacious. You can park your car in the free public parking lot in the scenic area. Cons: The room space is very cramped, and the windows in the lake-view rooms are small. The facilities are relatively simple. Compared to its price, the value for money is low.

This is a hotel that was converted from a historic prison. The staff are very nice and the guests are very friendly. It feels like a big family living together. It is not too far to walk to the city, so everything is very convenient.

Very nice location, good for relaxing, 1 km from town center, but so close to the lake by just crossing the street. I would love to stay longer next time. If you reach late at night, it’s better to contact hotel in advance and ask for map and photos of your room location before. I arrived very late at night from Christchurch (changed transit flight from Auckland). It took me awhile to understand the map, room location and where to park. It was just 1 day after new moon. So, it was very dark. It’s hard for me to figure out the scale of the place and I didn’t see the small cabin at the back from the street.

The room was clean, and there were two shared bathrooms. The kitchen facilities were complete with full dinnerware. There's also a restaurant and a lounge. The coffee machine was a nice convenience. The location is great, not far from Huang Chao supermarket, making shopping very easy.

The Intercity bus stop is right in front of the hotel. The internal facilities are complete, and the shower has a spray head. The room is clean and tidy. We were even able to check in early at 1 PM when our bus arrived. The media room, common areas, and even the trigger (I'm assuming this refers to an amenity like an arcade game or a specific type of lounge) are all very spacious, and the environment is excellent. The first picture shows the common area, the second shows the front desk and hallway after entering, and the third is a direct shot of the Milky Way from a phone that night.

It was Easter 🐣 week so the shop was closed, so I called and they opened the door for me. The shop is a bar, so it may be crowded on normal days, but I think it's a good idea to check with the staff. Everyone is very friendly and kind, so you can enter the room with peace of mind. The private room is as shown in the photo, and it even has a refrigerator. It was kept clean and very comfortable. It was raining and the outside temperature dropped, but it didn't affect the room. The shared space is the kitchen, shower and toilet, but this shop has been there since the 1800s, so you can feel the history. However, the kitchen has been remade and is induction compatible. I have only ever used gas, but I was able to use it without any problems! I also decided on this hotel because I was planning to watch a rugby game. It is about a 15-minute walk away, and there are McDonalds and other places, and the street lights are basically on, so I think the security is not a problem. I highly recommend this hotel over other Doritomi, so please give it a try! Thank you for a wonderful time!

The room is clean but small. It is a youth hostel. The shower and toilet are public spaces. The cooking area is large. It is in the center of the town. You must go to eat lobster BBQ.

A short walk to the main town and has ample parking on the street. Check in and out were quick and easy. The room and bathroom itself was clean and comfortable. Minor note was that the sound insulation between the rooms are not as superb, so you could hear faint voices from the other room.
