M Qube Hotel
4.4/598 Reviews
Tried out new concept with M Qube & it turned a pleasant stay. It is clean & well maintained in all areas. You will get all basic that needed after check-in and in your own cube. Locked locker provided also which no need worry your belongings with no where store but suggested for small/medium size only. Great ME-Time spent in own cube. You will have shared bathroom and it is acceptable clean level. Just to watch up that your amenities shower tray will be get wet if using standing rain shower head as it will spill all around. Location ok as there is a food court next to the building and the price is reasonable. I think gotten my second home to stay in whenever visit Penang 😊 Will be back soon!
Island Hostel, Bayan Lepas Airport

Red Inn Court
4.1/5107 Reviews
I have a very good stay for 4 days at Red Inn Court. The owners are very friendly and always giving smile everytime we meet. Check in process was so easy, even though I didn't get any towel. When check in, you'll be asked for MYR 30 for room deposit. Plus: (+) Hostel is close to Rapid Penang bus stop. From the airport you can get down at Little India (Lebuh Chulia). From this spot or Penang Muzium you can go travel around Penang. It's very close to the hostel, for approximately 5 minutes walking. (+) For you who are Muslim, this hostel is very close to Kapitan Keling Mosque. You can clearly hear adzan (prayer calling) from this hostel. (+) You can find a lot of local cuisine in the surroundings. There are so many food choices you can take to eat. You're advisable to eat Nasi Kandar, Koay Teow, Penang Laksa, Hokkien Mee, Putu Mayong, Pasembur, and Popiah. They're the best quality food in town. (+) This hostel provides you a lot of tourist brochures inside their lobby. Free to take. You can freely take Penang Tourist Map, Penang Tourism Calendar of Events, Marking Georgetown, Penang Street Food, and so many more. By reading those references, I guarantee you wouldn't be lost in Penang. (+) This hostel offers its vintage style, precisely Chinese-vintage-style. I love it. There are so many rooms inside. (+) They serve you free simple breakfast, like bread, sandwich, fruits, etc. Free flow tea and coffee. (+) They have room service, so for you who stay more than one night, don't be worried, they'll clean your room, your bed, your blanket, etc. (+) The room is equipped with fan and air conditioner. It's completely sufficient to make you feel comfortable. (+) Because of its location, you'll be easy to find halal foods nearby. It's also strategic to go everywhere: State Court, KOMTAR, State Museum, Esplanade, City Hall, market, etc. Minus: (-) You maybe find the comments that the receptionist girl are rude. But I don't think so. She's clearly given me helps. I think that she's just ”polite”, not friendly. But the owners are very friendly. You can hire the motorcycle. For you who come from Indonesia or Brunei, the Madame is able to speak Malay/Bahasa. It will help you so much. Don't be hesitant to talk to her. (-) You will not find a large locker. There is a small locker behind your bed. It's small, not too large, but for me it's enough to place your precious belongings. It can only be opened by your own key so don't worry if your possessions can be stolen or not. (-) They have enough shared bathrooms, but there is no hot water inside. By the way, the bathrooms are clean. (-) When you firstly enter your room, you maybe find that it is a little humid/moist inside. I think it is because of air conditioning system. The room is small but the air conditioner is so powerful. (-) Personally, they didn't give me a towel (even though I brought mine). But they did give towels to every guest and I didn't get it. It's like a little unfair, subjectively. My rate: 8/
Victoria Inn, Penang
3.9/597 Reviews
Good spot for a pleasant and laid-back holiday. You may wander around to reach the restaurants and cafes. The hotel also provided pamphlets about Georgetown, including activities and places to visit. The family suite is spacious, comfortable, and tidy. They also have a security guard on duty. The staff is nice and approachable. We had a good experience there. Unfortunately, the facilities are limited. We stayed for a week, but the bedsheet was not changed according to hotel rules. They will supply new shower towels when they make up the room, but not tissue rolls. We had to request it at the front desk, and they delivered it the next day (we understood, maybe because it's only the two of them on duty). The WiFi signal is intermittent. A family suite room does not have a mini refrigerator. When we arrived, the telephone cable had been disconnected. There are just a few charging plugs. Furthermore, Trip.com states that breakfasts are available at the hotel's front desk. However, they do not provide breakfast. I hope this gets rectified on the website. Thank you very much. Nevertheless, it's a pleasant stay.
Goodhope Hotel Gurney, Penang

I used to stay there 10 years ago, and I felt surprise on its well maintained for my recent stay. It is very clean and just beside gurney plaza. Very convenient. Free parking within the premise, first come first serve basis. The washroom is small, but I don't find that is an issue. Recommended.
Georgetown Inn By Sky Hive
3.9/567 Reviews
In the middle of the center of the Old Town Penang & Georgetown. Pros : self check in / out, easy to handle, affordability, Line or WhatsApp communication instead of phone call, good security, basic yet functional room & amenities. Cons : Given the self check in/out, certain guests might feel not that convenient, water filter available but no bottled water in the room (for us it was totally fine - the water purifier is COWAY, so we trust it) What we liked was how affordable the room was.
Some Place Else

Best hostel I’ve stayed in. Huge dorm. 36 beds. ( smaller dorms available). But you would never realise this as they are nicely spaced out and guests are respectful to the rules. Bathroom great. Showers fine. Lots to participate in reception area and great chill area with bean bags. Hikes, film nights, quiz, pool table. They do all sorts and you only have to put your name down on the board. There is no pressure. Staff are great. Super friendly and place is clean. Team work well to maintain this. Real good place to sit and chat with people or join them to create new memories. Highly recommend this place. Fantastic location
Swing & Pillows @ Malabar
3.9/514 Reviews
The hostel located in the historical part of the city, so it's pretty easy to get around. The room was quite small and with no windows as expected (it was stated in the room description so just be ready for it). There were some tiny bugs running on the floor in the room but I doubt they were harmful. The staff is friendly and always ready to help. Thank you for the guidance around the hostel facilities. In general, I enjoyed the stay with Swing&Pillows, and I can recommend it if you look for something cheap and yet convenient. If you seek more comfort, it's better to consider other options.

Sunstar Hotel

The location is  very close to the airport, about  RM 6 with GRAB. and 10 km to the  oriental village/ skybridge area. Situated in a very quiet wiht nothing to see and do.  It is very clean and well maintained. The amenities are beyond my expectation for a budget hotel. The room has a balcony with chairs and table.  The swimming pool is clean. I didn't try the food. We had our dinner at the eating place nearby.
