Hostels in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan

This place’s saving grace is their 9th floor lounge - having somewhere to spend time during the day and evenings when it was raining was a saving grace although if you can get a hostel for half the price there’s also plenty of nice cafes to spend days in working/reading in. There was no air, anywhere. Baring in mind it’s the middle of typhoon season and torrential downpour outside all day. There was no ventilation, the only “windows” in the dorm were letterbox size and literally inside the bottom bunks (which you have to pay extra to request haha) so you can’t just crack a window and there’s no space for people leaving their wet clothes so the room absolutely stank of damp and dirt. It was a nice enough place but just fell a little short for the price for me

I enjoyed my stay here as a female solo traveler. The bed and room lighting are adjustable, so even if you like staying up late with the lights on, you don't have to worry about disturbing others because the bed area is covered by a privacy blind. It's very comfortable to have a queen-size bed in a capsule hotel compared to many others. There's no need to climb stairs, and there is plenty of space in the room to store your belongings. You can also leave large luggage outside your room. I also managed to do some night sightseeing around Tenjin and Nakatsu. The night views were beautiful. If there’s a chance I will definitely come back here again.

When I reached the hotel, I was stunned because the lobby was crowded with people enjoying a beer night or social gathering, which is definitely not my kind of activity as an introvert 😮💨. It was difficult to reach the front desk because I had to squeeze through the crowd to get in and out. I wish the hotel had separate entrances with clearer signage, such as a ”party area” and a ”check-in area,” which would be much more helpful. Surprisingly, the lounge area on the 3rd floor was quiet and comfortable, and both the bathroom and bed were clean. I chose this place because I wanted to visit Nakatsukasa Magotaro Inari Shrine (also known as the Cyber Shrine) at night. It's about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, but walking there alone can be a little scary because the road has limited lighting, and visiting a shrine at night always gives off a spooky vibe. I went there at around 9:30 PM. Since it’s not nearby the happening places like Tenjin or Hakata, there’s is no shop opening nearby in the night (except the convenience store), but if you are visiting the Ohori Park I think it’s just about 5 minutes walking.

I stayed alone at Ninehours Hakata Station, and it was a good place for solo travelers. However, it was a bit inconvenient that there was no refrigerator, I had to be out of the accommodation from 11 AM to 3 PM, and luggage storage after check-out was not available. Also, with only one power outlet and one USB port in the room, it was inconvenient when using multiple electronic devices. Additionally, there was a large tree in the common area, and I saw bugs that looked like baby cockroaches around it, which made me a bit hesitant to use the common space. Nevertheless, considering the affordable price, I was generally satisfied, and I would be willing to stay here again if I visit Fukuoka alone.

Summary: don't stay here. You've been warned. I've been to many capsule hotels in Japan. None were as horribly bad and overpriced as this one. Good: close to the station and the staff do what they can within their (very confined) perceived limits Bad: no sound insulation so you get to enjoy ambient sounds like traffic, trains and other patrons scuffling about during nighttime. The mattress is moldy, dirty and super thin so it doesn't feel comfortable unless you're used to sleeping on a moldy floor. The layout makes absolutely no sense at all. They tried cramming in as many capsules as possible in one small area and called it a day. 2 toilet stalls for 62 capsules? Laughable. The bath area is minuscule so you're queueing just to get a cramped dip. Lockers are minuscule and the luggage area is right next to the reception so you have to cross public area just to get some stuff out of your luggage. No space to unpack in peace either. I'd rather have them drop the breakfast and bathing area in favour of fixing the one thing they're supposed to deliver: a good night's sleep. Consider this place a last resort, not a proper stay.

Room: comfortable bed, storage box, mirror, space under the bed, hanger, a good chunk of space next to the bed, light, plugs, fan, full curtain, and steps to the higher bunks rather than a ladder. all really useful features. Bathroom: spacious shower. shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cotton buds, good hair dryer, towels. Little bit of grime around the edges but generally clean. Security: pin on hostel after certain hours I think. Amenities: fridge. downstairs eating area.I don't think there is a washing machine but there are numerous coin laundry places in walking distance. Location: not the most convenient location but not bad e.g. from the train station, you can go one stop by bus but still have to walk ten minutes, but there are limited places to cross the road and street lighting can be poor so follow your directions carefully. however within the surrounding area itself there is a good mix of convenience stores and restaurants. Other: noise from downstairs and other rooms.

I chose this place based on the price and reviews. I didn’t realize I would end up at a small room with bunk beds and 3 heavy snorers. The staff is strict and friendly, which must be in a right and busy space like this. It offers what I looked for, a bed to sleep, a toilet, shower and toilet, and these is a room where you can eat and cool of you like. The beds are okay but  Spartan and value for money wise this place is not scoring well compare to other places in Japan for the same price range. Somehow Fukuoka is more expensive than other places I’ve been. Don’t know why. When I ever return to Fuluoka I would consider to pay a bit more extra and have a room for myself to be honest.

Juri was so helpful throughout my stay. The female dorm is on the second floor, next to the private room. Quiet hours are respected by others who are staying at the hostel and the free washer and dryer was a lifesaver for a stay that is longer than 3 days. They provide earplugs, which I think is convenient if you share a bunk with someone who snores or if there is movement around the hostel in the middle of the night. The location is a bit of a walk from the closest train station but there are also nearby bus stops and a convenience stores along the way. I definitely recommend this place and most likely will stay here or try their other locations if I pass the area again. :)

I was searching for a guesthouse near Hakata Station and found this one. I've stayed in many guesthouses overseas, so I was surprised at how clean a Japanese guesthouse was. The toilets, showers, sinks, and other water areas were always clean, and the beds were spacious and spacious enough for me to stretch out my legs. The futon was fluffy, and I ended up sleeping even more than usual. The staff were friendly and made the stay very comfortable. The free coffee in the dining area was also a nice touch. The location is great, convenient for anywhere you want to go, so I'd definitely stay here again if I travel to Fukuoka. Thank you so much!

Love this hotel very much. Easy check in and out system using personal PIN number which will be emailed to you. Clean rooms, Comfy bed and modern toilet. Perfect view of the river. Did not want the housekeeping to bother us for the 6 days we stayed, so they just provided change of towels and just bring your trash to Recep everyday. Enough space to open 3 huge luggages. There's a 7/11 nearby and big mall with cinema just across the river. Recommended. We will be back.
