Lovely little hotel, exceptional location. As a solo traveler, I really enjoyed the convenience of having a multitude of restaurants and bars available at my door step. Despite the area being lively, little noise would be heard in the room. Breakfast was delicious, great shower, comfy bed and super friendly host. This was an extremely pleasant stay!
We chose Hybla Major B&B because it was very affordable, at an excellent location, and the ratings were super! And everything was true!!! Gabriele, the owner, got in contact with us before to explain the check-in process. Everything went smooth and we easily checked into our room #2 at Hybla Major three nights ago. The room was simple yet immaculately clean as was the bathroom. Towels were provided and they smelled good (that's a maybe tiny thing to add but it's important to me). We didn't book the breakfast (we wanted to be free and hungry enough to eat whatever we see ”out there” 😂) but we saw the buffet that was waiting for the breakfast-ers earlier in the morning and it looked very good ... 🥐 ☕
Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take pictures of this cute little place, but I will do next time when we go there again. Because: Avola is such a lovely little Sicilian town that we go back and visit again and we'll stay at Hybla Major for sure - that should be convincing enough! 😉
Anyways, I will add a few pictures of Avola, so you know how beautiful it is!
The Serena Palace is a modern, clean and furnished room with a superior taste that reflects the beauty of Mazara. The location is strategic to explore the centre, but the hit is the warm and careful welcome of Marco, a genuine Sicilyan excellence that I strongly advise those who look for comfort and style.
First of all, I would like to praise the owner and his wife. I contacted them one night and said that I hoped to put my luggage down first. As a result, when I arrived at ten o'clock, the hostess gave me the key directly and gave me a large bottle of mineral water. I also asked what I had for breakfast. I said that I would go to catch the car at 5 o'clock in the morning. If there was no breakfast, I understood that if I wanted to prepare, I would give me two eggs, a piece of bread and a glass of milk. In the evening, the host brought me a box of eggs (6), a long loaf of bread, and prepared room temperature milk, which was really moving. In addition, he also has a variety of shampoos and toothpaste. I really hope that his business is good, but I am not satisfied with my stay. First, the Wi-Fi signal in the room is very weak, you have to go to the restaurant to be better; second, the bathroom and toilet are shared, I don't know if I didn't see it clearly, I thought it was a private bathroom. The bathroom had a surf bath, but I wanted to wash a normal shower and found that there was no shower curtain and the faucet was low, making it difficult to wash my hair. Third, the house is on the dark side of the first floor, very cold, the boss also put me heating, I was still awake at one o'clock, and turned a blanket in the cabinet, barely sleeping until four o'clock; Fourth, there is no disposable sheets on the bed, but sleeping on the blanket. The top is also a thin quilt. There is no layer of quilt cover or sheets below. So I suspect that these beddings are not for me alone, because the blanket and thin quilt are thicker and it is impossible to change every day. Wash. Fifth, the price is high, more than 300 a night and the local price is higher than some.

Very good location at the same price, very close to the business district and the church square. The rooms are very spacious, very different from those cramped hotel rooms. It is more suitable for the whole family to travel together. The breakfast is very rich, and it is not compliant with a five-star hotel. If the check out is too early, the hotel will prepare a take away breakfast in advance.
The only thing to note is that the front desk is not staffed 24 hours a day. If you arrive too late, it is best to greet the hotel in advance.

This the no 1 hotel I liked during my trip around Sicily. The hotel is like hidden gem. Beautifully surrounded by olive trees, and love the rosemary at the backyard. The room is spacious, modern and chic. Receptionist is friendly and speak fluent English. I had diner here. It's like having a di er in fine dining. Everything is great, from the services and food. Highly recomended..

Very Good
AA. LozanoThe room is very modern and clean. All has been recently renovated. They offer contactless check in, which is convenient. The room has a little balcony with nice views of Catania.
It is loud and busy outside, but the windows are of good quality so if you keep them closed it will be quiet. Air conditioning is available as well.
The room has a big flat screen television offering smart TV services including Netflix.
IIntravenousNot a hotel, more like a Bnb with limited service

We booked Mia Terra expecting a hotel — but it turned out to be more of a one-man bed and breakfast. From the start, nothing went smoothly. We had decided to take up the host’s offer of an airport shuttle (not cheap), as one of us only had one evening in Palermo and every minute counted. The shuttle arrived 15 minutes late, and when we finally reached the property, no one was there to check us in, causing yet another delay — even though the host had personally arranged our transport and knew our arrival time. The host then offered excuses that didn’t line up with the shuttle driver’s story (which btw, the driver didn’t even know our destination — we had to guide him — and only accepted cash, which we weren’t told in advance.)
Check-in was confusing and disorganized. Despite several text messages from the host to confirm our room setup (which should have been clear from the booking), he had still assigned the wrong rooms and once again found excuses, incorrectly blaming the booking platform. When we asked him to fix it, he was reluctant but eventually agreed — behaving as if he were doing us a favor — though he did offer free breakfast as compensation, which we didn’t need.
Since there is no staff at the property. The host promised to respond to messages “within minutes,” yet replies often took hours. The whole experience felt like a single person trying to run a hotel alone — and it shows.
To be fair, the rooms were clean and comfortable, although in one of them, the shower faced the bedroom through a glass wall, so you had to shower in the dark for privacy.
Overall, the service and professionalism fell far short of hotel standards. If you’re expecting the reliability of an actual hotel, look elsewhere.
GGuest UserIf I could give this place 20/10 for service, I would. When we arrived at the location, we were in a complete state of panic as we thought we had been scammed by the gas station up the road. After checking us in (a few hours early), the receptionist kindly accompanied us back to the gas station and helped us translate between Italian and English, clarifying the misunderstanding of the situation. This was exceptional service and kindness we were not expecting.
The room itself was incredibly luxurious - we actually had 2 bedrooms (family suite) for 2 people. The walk-in wardrobe was a delightful surprise, although we didn't stay long enough to enjoy it. As we were both working while on holiday, the study desk in each room gave us the privacy and space to do our meetings and work independently. The bar fridge was useful for us to store our salads, snacks and bottled drinks.
The bed was super comfortable and we had a very restful sleep. The pillows were also the right height. Thankfully, there was air conditioning - our previous hotel did not. We slept like babies. The bathroom had all the amenities, including a hairdryer which is essential for me.
Best for last - breakfast the next morning was an absolute feast. The continental style breakfast spread was generous and we indulged in pastries, yogurt, fresh fruits and marvellous coffee. I believe everything is baked fresh in house. As we checked out, we were even gifted a bag of pastries to take on our journey with us. <3
I highly recommend this place, and I am ever grateful to the wonderful hospitality we enjoyed here.
SshittalkerExcellent Stay with Great Location and Stunning Views
I recently stayed at this hotel and had a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic—just a 16-minute walk from the train station and about 15-20 minutes on foot to the island’s main attractions.
The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and very clean, with the added bonus of being close to the sea. It even had two balconies, allowing us to enjoy the lovely views and fresh air.
What made our stay even better was the friendly and helpful staff. They were always welcoming and went out of their way to assist us whenever needed.
Here’s an updated version of your review that includes the negative aspects while maintaining a balanced and professional tone:

**Great Location & Beautiful Room, but Noise Can Be an Issue**
I had a mostly pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent—just a **16-minute walk from the train station** and **15-20 minutes to the island’s main attractions**.
The room itself was **spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated**, with the added benefit of being **close to the sea** and featuring **two balconies**. The staff were also **very friendly and helpful**, which enhanced our experience.
However, there was one major downside: the walls are extremely thin. We could easily hear noises from the hallway and stairwell. On our last night, the neigh-boring room was very loud, which disrupted our sleep and unfortunately put a damper on an otherwise great trip.
GGuest UserThe hotel was not obvious for us - when we arrived, we drove around for about 10 minutes looking for a sign before parking on the wrong side of the road, and having to call for instructions. It was our fault, as the hotel tried contacting us earlier in the day but we did not have signal to take the call. Once we were instructed to the right place, it was super straightforward as Gianluca buzzed us in remotely, and upon verifying ID, let us into the unit and our bedroom. The lift in the building was super cool - for this experience alone I recommend staying in this hotel.
The room was charming. Our previous hotel was a suite so this felt a bit small, but it was homely all the same. The small downside was how warm it felt in the room. The air conditioning wouldn't work with the windows open, but it wasn't running very strong. At night, we preferred keeping the window open for some fresh air instead. The poster bed added a quaint and romantic feel to the room, and we were absolutely spoilt with a surprise of a bottle of Prosecco as a gift! Of course, the highlight of the whole place was the jacuzzi in the bathroom. As we both had to do some work and also were tired from a road trip, all of these little touches made the stay in this hotel incredibly luxurious for us. I really recommend this place for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon.
WWensiboWe picked Antico Borgo Etneo for a weekend getaway with friends – me and my Italian partner, two Chinese friends, and their 5-year-old daughter. We arrived with no big expectations and left with a promise to come back.
The place has that authentic charm that makes you feel at home right away, nestled among citrus groves and vineyards with a stunning view of Mount Etna. The rooms are simple but cozy, clean, and with that rustic vibe that really works.
Breakfast was a pleasant surprise: homemade cakes, jams made from local fruit, and freshly squeezed juices – a perfect energy boost to start the day. The little one had a blast running around the garden, and we adults enjoyed some much-needed relaxation under the trees.
The location is great for exploring the area: Taormina, the Alcantara Gorges, and the beaches are all just a short drive away.
In short: no over-the-top luxury, but genuine hospitality and an atmosphere that makes you slow down and enjoy every moment. Perfect for those who want authenticity without the frills.
We’ll definitely be back – maybe in summer to make the most of the outdoor spaces.
GGuest UserTHIS WAS THE BEST CHOICE I DID IN SICILY.
First, this is the cleanest place I saw in my trip. They ask you every morning if you want a cleaning when they bring you breakfast. The bathroom/shower room is modern and same as the picture. The body soap, shampoo, conditioner was a Sicily one that was very nice of them. The public space was so good, they had balcony so it would be great to take pictures for instagram.
Secondly, the breakfast. Insanely great. You can choose 2 things from about 15 types of dishes such as sandwiches or yogurt or fruits. For drink you can pick 1 from about 15 types such as cappuccino or hot chocolate. They have milk choices like oat milk and almond milk that is amazing in this price. For spread, you can choose 2 from about 10 types such as honey or Nutella or almond butter or many flavors of jam. For a dessert, you can choose a cake from 2 or 3 types they have that day. You can choose where you want to eat room or public space.
Thirdly, the staffs were a lot more kind and friendly then the average of sicily.
Nice place absolutely recommend!!
PPeter YipWe had a 2-week family vacation in Italy, travelled to Rome, Florence, Naples and Palermo. Our stay at Olivuzza 27 in Palermo is by far the BEST! The room is spacious, well-appointed, clean. And, it has a kitchenette, so that we could cook dinner with the fresh ingredients bought from the supermarket nearby. The apartment is just a stone’s throw away from the town centre, we could go to different places just on foot. And it is located in a quiet and safe area. We didn’t have to worry even we walked back to the apartment after a night out.
Our heartfelt thanks to the owner Salvo for his hospitality, who proactively offered us help in many ways. Salvo is friendly and caring. He speaks very good English too. He gave us very good recommendations for restaurants, attractions, useful apps. He helped us with laundry service after we were totally soaked in the pouring rain in one of the days. Each of the small touch have made us feel very welcomed. We had a very memorable trip in Palermo. If you happen to travel to Palermo, Olivuzza 27 is the PERFECT choice, trust me.
