I traveled alone in Sri Lanka for 8 days and 7 nights, and I stayed in B&Bs all the time. This was to control the budget and to get a deeper understanding of the people in Sri Lanka. This B&B was the best one among all the B&Bs I stayed in Sri Lanka. I arrived late, and the hostess and her daughter were waiting for me. The room was very spacious and clean. There was no breakfast in the order, but I spent 5 US dollars to try it and it was not bad. The only drawback is that it is a bit far from the city center of the ancient city of Galle. If you drive or charter a car, there is no problem. When I left, I forgot to tell them that my email address is: ********************** Hope you can write to me!
The Resort is very beautiful. The rooms are comfy and spacious. I have uploaded some room pictures you can see in that the rooms are nice.
The main attraction is the property itself. The Resort is lake side with beautiful landscaping and design. On the first floor the is lounge and billiards room where you can chill. On the second floor ( Terrace ) there are multiple small rooms, lounge, fitness centre and spa created for meetings, leisure and relaxing.
There is pool on the ground floor overlooking the lake. Which is perfect in the morning. This property is to enjoy the Resort itself.
You can definitely stay here. It is worth the money.
It was great but a bit pricey. There isn’t much around the area as there’s in Weligama or Merissa but it was worth it for a last night of lazing out before flying out.
Really enjoyed my stay at fort bazaar. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Due to the rainy weather down south I changed my plans to go to Tangalle and stay a couple of extra days at Fort Bazaar and enjoyed the spa and walking around Galle.
I was a solo traveler and felt safe and comfortable there.
Definitely somewhere I would consider to stay again
Very satisfied, very amazing! The hotel was originally built in 1967 and designed by Asia's most outstanding architect, Geoffrey Bawa. The hotel reopened in December 2019, trying to preserve the original appearance of Bawa's buildings, recreating the famous batik ceiling entrance, and the brass peacock sculpture created by Laki once again stands on the stair railings of the restaurant. The 30 rooms in the main building have been converted into 16 suites, L-shaped, overlooking the Indian Ocean to the west and the Bentota River to the north. If you are an architect, it is recommended to stay in a suite, because the other two guest rooms are newly built later. We talked to Bawa at the front desk, and the hotel employee Sanduri gave a forty-minute tour, telling us every detail, trying to number each brick and then rebuild it as it was. In short, everything was very touching.
Environment: Beautiful environment, facing the swimming pool and the beach. The sand on the beach is very fine, so you can go without shoes without worrying about the pain.
Service: The cleaning staff is very enthusiastic. Every morning when I come back from playing, there are many fresh flowers on the bed and elephants and dogs made of towels, etc., which makes me feel relaxed immediately!
The beach at the hotel is too wavy to swim and can only bask in the sun. But not far away, there is another public beach more than 100 meters, where you can swim. There are many choices for buffet breakfast and dinner, and the taste is good. Of course, there are occasional mistakes, such as grilled too raw beef shoulder. There are very few things for children to entertain. There is a game room where you can draw, watch TV, play games, etc., but the maintenance is not very good. The service is generally good, ushered in. However, there are more ingredients for the show, and some details need attention. Overall, the price / performance ratio is average, and it should be done.
Regarding our stay at Marriott Weligama.
We enjoyed our stay due to few great “pluses”:
- perfect view with giant window in room;
- kids club works almost all day long, giving parents free time for ourselves; + professional stuff in club. we stayed two weeks in hotel and our favourite and beloved by kid - Bhagya - always met kid with smile, tried her best to interact kid in the most active way (despite some ladies, who found easier to switch on tv and cartoons), she easily found same language with my kid, although kid doesn’t know English at all. What I like most: Bhagya gave feedback on my kid’s activities in club every time.
- swimming pool worked till 10pm, which is really cool.
What we find could be improved:
- evening activities;
- more variety at breakfast - please change dishes at least 1-2 times in a week;
- coffee beans at breakfast… too burnt taste.
Indian hotel service is not too warm, the environment is very good, the room is not big but very style, the lawn is very suitable for walking and leisure. The biggest problem is that the food is all Indian food and not used to it. The price is not cheap.
Excellent hotel, we have been to many places and have something to compare with. Breakfasts are great, you choose from the menu and it was included in our stay. Rooms with a beautiful view of the ocean, pool, spa with excellent massage (you need to book a day in advance). There is a Japanese restaurant on the roof with a gorgeous view. Live music from Wednesday to Sunday! We highly recommend this hotel. Friendly and attentive staff. Internet WiFi worked great. The beach is private, sun loungers and towels are provided by the hotel for free, there are waves like almost everywhere in Sri Lanka with small children it may not be very comfortable to swim.
