Hotel room was quite roomy, probably because we got the handicap-friendly room. Cleanliness is good, service staff were helpful. However there were no dental kits and bedroom slippers given.

Brilliant experience. What a great hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and kept to a very high standard. Free access to the spa is a really plus!

I will start with the parking, I paid for secure parking however due to the hotel having noise issue the security gate to the carpark (The noise caused complaints) and second issue of refurbishment being ongoing, the gate was up to allow the building teams to park in the entrance way. This made it difficult to get out of the carpark due to there vans. When I questioned staff they were very dismissive of the issue and said they had CCTV on so it would be fine. The hotel itself is being partial refurbished and that is to revamp the very dated rooms, we were aware of this beforehand, however we were not prepared for 7am drilling and banging from the building works. In addition to this the corridors were often filled with building equipment and furniture which was ongoing throughout the stay. The room, while well proportioned, was very dated. This could have been forgiven if it wasn't for the fact the room was not clean. There were a number of stains on the carpet, the bathroom sink was stinking when used. The bath mat was moldy and the shower itself was a trickle of water, making it difficult to wash quickly. The curtains were very grubby and the room smelled very stale, the bed was adequate but we couldn't be 100% that the sheets had been properly cleaned as there was an odd smell to the bedding. The TV was of decent size but kept cutting in and out of signal when in use, which was annoying when we decided to have an early evening chilling in the room we had paid for, the WiFi was useless, if planning to work while staying here you will need to hotspot your phone. The breakfast food was OK, however the description of a wide choice of cooked food and continental breakfast dishes was over exaggerated, there was no fruit on two days and bananas on the last morning, one choice of yogurt and 3 small cereal options. The cooked food was standard: Bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes,mushrooms and bean's. Toast was something that had to be requested and was more like warm bread. On the first morning my partner was served a cup with the remainder of someone's lipstick stains on the rim. On closer inspection of the glasses there were a number which were not clean. On the second night we went to the bar area to grab a couple of drinks. The bar was full of empty unwashed glasses and when we got our drinks our glasses where sticky. There was a smell of stale ale which was not appealing in the slightest. On checking out raised a couple of things with the receptionist and was meet with at best distinct lack of interest and worst just plan rudeness. Sadly this hotel did not meet the standards it professed to uphold. I would say the location and river view was pretty and the fact the parking was at the hotel itself made it one of the reasons I booked it. However after this visit I will not be visiting again as there are better hotels in York and carparks that are not much more expensive than the supposed secure parking.

We stayed last weekend to celebrate two birthdays and we arrived on the Friday night at approximately 8.00 pm. We managed to get a car park at the Peel Street car park which is literally located at the back of the hotel. You can unload at the the front on the hotel and the road isn't that busy so you can pull up and unload safely. Reception staff friendly and polite and we were allocated room 209. Upon entering the room is did seem dark and not very big and it was a double bed, but the room was clean and it was what we had booked. We went out for the evening just to grab a quick bite to eat and when entering the room and getting ready for bed it was quite noisy outside. I checked the window and the vent only to realise it was shut. I went to Reception to discuss the noise level as I thought it was coming from Weatherspoon's Pub across the road but in fact I had my geographic location wrong and it was in fact coming from a park that is located at the side of the hotel. The staff were very helpful in checking the floors of the hotel to double check it was not coming from within the hotel but we did ascertain that it was in fact people in the park. (NOTE this is not the hotels fault at all). The hotel dealt with this promptly and it went very quiet after about 20 mins so I am guessing the people were moved on by the authorities. The next morning we were relocated to a higher floor, same type of room and layout which served our purposes much better as the room was much lighter and quieter. Thank you. A great view over the city was was lovely. The Manager on site that weekend was very polite and helpful in moving us the following morning when their was availability and rectified the situation promptly for us. It was my birthday weekend and once we were moved we really felt we started to unwind and enjoy our weekend away. Breakfast was plentiful on all three days and the staff in the breakfast room are smiley, polite and constantly checking things were in stock and were always clearing tables. It is a busy breakfast room but nothing was too much trouble for them......even warming the pancakes up as it is a buffet breakfast. Thank you Tia the Manager for solving the problem we had and for Nicky and his co-worker (apologies a lovely blond lady) who went floor to floor on the Friday night to look for the noise which I am glad to say it wasn't coming from within our hotel). A great hotel for walking in the city and although we did have a small problem the Management dealt with it, without any hassle and it was not awkward when seeing them again which was lovely.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

My wife and I stayed at The Grand back on 25/03/22 and we were so impressed that we just had to return. The staff are still helpful and friendly, the food is excellent and the room we stayed in was impressive. It was clean, comfy and had just been decorated and fitted with a power shower. The seagulls on our window sill could be quite noisy, but remember we are at the seaside! We paid £200 in total for bed, breakfast and evening meal, which I found to be excellent value. Disregard all the negative reports that you read about this hotel, make a visit and decide for yourself. Perhaps, if these people want 5 star, that will have to pay 5 star prices. We will certainly be visiting The Grand again.

Very quirky hotel. Booked a normal cosy room but was upgraded because we were gold members, to 2 room family room. I am 6 foot 1 and it was difficult because I was constantly wary of my overhead space. It was a cool concept though and the floor space was good. It was the quirkiest Hilton I've stayed in. The bar area was pleasant but it was crowded due to some unforeseen circumstances for the hotel- many coaches arrived with many American tourists. We felt a bit 'ignored' because of the number of people. This also led us to not have a seat at the restaurant for dinner. Had a few draught beers out of stock at the bar but it was ok. Breaktfast was very good, usual Hilton standard. No complaints there. The parking was very very tight, I appreciate that it is pretty much in the city centre. I can say this hilton is better than the Hilton York one next to Cliffords tower by miles.

We booked this hotel for a 3 day get away to York. The hotel is well situated off Tadcaster Road, near a woodland path which leads to York racecourse, so is very popular for those who go to the horse racing. Free parking is given on the hotel’s ground, but be warned make sure you go to reception and put in your car registration details in their computerised system otherwise you will be issued with a parking fine from the company who operates CCTV monitoring for the hotel. We booked the hotel through the IHG website, as an IHG Gold member we were given an option of an early checkin for a fee of £20.00 and an upgrade of £45.00. We took advantage of both offers, subject to availability on arrival. Unfortunately this wasn’t possible on arrival, and we weren’t able to check in until nearly 3pm. We were given the upgrade of a room on the top floor. The room had a small fridge with complimentary water and a chocolate bar, slippers, and dressing gowns. The toiletries, conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, are all in fixed to the wall containers. The bath room had a large walk in shower which was quite powerful, but space to hang towels, put personal toiletries was very minimal, and I was thankful that I took a plastic shoe type hold-all and a suction hook which I attached to the shower door to put our toiletries in, otherwise they would have cluttered the sink area. The bathroom was very small, and the door needs to be closed to get any room to do what is necessary in the bathroom. We booked a deal of dinner bed and breakfast. This was a disaster. We went for dinner and just about everything on the menu wasn’t available. Eventually we ordered a burger and chips. After about 30 minutes the food arrived. It was the worse burger and chips I have ever tasted. The burger was burnt on the outside, raw in the middle, the bun was burnt, the chips were very brown, which tasted of fat. We picked at the food as we were so hungry but it wasn’t nice, and hardly edible, in fact what I ate made me feel quite sick afterwards. We complained to reception, who apologised, and said that chefs in York were really hard to employ, and offered to refund the dinner to our account. We said that if this was the case, we would rather not eat dinner in the hotel, and could they please refund the dinner portion from our account for the rest of the stay. We had breakfast for the next 3 mornings, but it wasn’t marvellous, often dishes weren’t refilled when emptied. Some staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing, and others didn’t seem to be that bothered, or concerned, about the guests in the hotel, possibly some more customer service training could be beneficial all round. For the remainder of the stay we ate our evening meal in the pub across the road, which was really good. Was worried reading reviews but we had the best get away here for our wedding anniversary. Our room was overlooking the small courtyard and was very clean. Could not fault our room. We arrived early so had a drink at the bar, check in was quick and easy and the lady on reception was very pleasant and polite. Nice touch of chocolates in our room for our anniversary. Only a 10 minute walk into the main centre which has plenty to do and see. Before we left Sunday we wanted to explore and was advised we could stay in the car park as long as needed. Was very quiet in our room and had a decent night sleep. We will definitely return, we had the most perfect weekend.

Myself, my son (11 years) and our puppy Hugo and my parents had the privilege of staying in this hotel for 2 nights whilst we had a 2 day city break in York. The staff are extremely welcoming, so friendly, happy to help and fun. The reception area is awesome with so many games and books to read we never had a dull moment. The staff were so good with Hugo, which was a bonus that we could bring our puppy and feel so welcome we would love to come back and stay. The beds are so comfy, massive flat screen tv in rooms, lovely showers and really cool deign in rooms we loved it. The staff really went out of there way too help in anyway they would and gave us a really friendly Advice in where to go too to eat and see th sights of York. Our room was cleaned beautifully and we enjoyed sitting out in the courtyard for our complimentary drinks on our last night. Wonderful ! What more can you ask for :) thanks everyone you made it very special for us all :)

When we arrived there was no staff anywhere to be seen until someone from restaurant came and got someone, however when she did arrive she was very nice and helpful. I asked to be in a refurbished room and wasn’t, shower was broke and hanging off the hinges and squirts all over. The car parking is not good as there is only 6 spaces and it’s £10 per night. Food was nice however wasn’t fully well done like I asked but was still nice. Lovely man in restaurant and guy behind reception on nights took pictures for us and brought my bfs surprise bday cake out. Lovely night staff got us water after we arrived back after night out. Would like to thank the housekeeping staff for making the room lovely with all of the decorations I brought to decorate it with for my bfs bday.

Great hotel with lots of amenities on offer. Excellent location and superb customer service. Lindsey on reception checked us in and helped us with a lower level room request as well as providing free drinks during our slightly delayed room availability. The Club Room, offering free drinks and nibbles was included in our package and is a great facility although very busy on the Saturday night of our stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel

Lovely stay with my friend in a twin room. I think the room reflected the price we paid, although spacious it was a little jaded. Super clean bathroom & bedding, comfy beds & enough storage. The room was dark, net curtains were torn & the papered ceiling begining to peel. Room was at back of hotel overlooking rooftops. The rest of the the hotel was spick and span with a lovely dining room and a great breakfast. Loved the position of the hotel, very central & the olde world feel of it. All staff very pleasent and helpful.

Beautiful, comfortable and beautiful. Across the road is a huge lawn! The room was a bit small but reasonably clean. The surrounding environment is great. The English breakfast was also delicious, I ate it for 5 days in a row. The dinner is also good, the waiters are nice, Service is nice. Many elderly people come here. The water quality is a few blocks behind London.

The cost of the accomodation didn’t quite match the level of service we would expect. The location is grand and the facilities are really good, as is the breakfast. However, the pool is limited to strange times for families such as during breakfast and dinner, when the middle of the day is would be more suitable. Also someone chased after us when leaving the spa to return the towels, which two children were using, rather than allowing us to leave them in our room for housekeeping to collect. The house keeping took two turns to send shampoo to our room, after a polite call, they sent shower gel instead. In summary, great food and facilities, but it’s bit awkward with children to be there and the service in the spa and housekeeping is lacking.

Greeted with a friendly face and directed to reception. It’s a massive hotel old but clean and interesting. Our room 333 over looking the back of the hotel green lawn. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the tea making facilities, which were polostrine cups like takeaway ones. Maybe from Covid, and the tea milk and sugar in a tied up bag, no tray. But later on we ordered sandwiches from the bar and he said that he could get them to our room if we wanted to rather than wait in the bar for them. That’s when I asked for a real cup and he said that he would send two up with our sandwiches. Nothing is to much trouble, I would and will be staying here again.

Arrived to be greeted by a smiling receptionist called Fran, our room wasn't ready so left our bags in a room close to reception, trotted around Harrogate, The room was ready by 3.30pm,we asked for room 116,first floor,right next to the stairs(never hear the door opening or closing)as we have stayed in this room before . Great sized room, super king sized bed,great size TV,plenty Yorkshire tea bags and coffee,lovely powerful shower.Showers could use a small shelf inside so not bending up and down for shower gel/shampoo. Small comfy nap before dinner,dinner enjoyed in the on site Fat Badger restaurant. Delicious meal,good choice, not a huge menu but enough to satisfy everyone.great huge choice of wines,we settled on a lovely pino grigio,and even a cocktail in the hotel bar. Comfy nights sleep and an ample breakfast but journeying home.We will be returning for sure,its our favorite in Harrogate.Huge thanks to Fran on reception (and part time waitress) and also Dan on reception.Thanks for an excellent stay.

We stayed at the Studley Hotel for two nights and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The cleaners we have to say provided a first class service and our room was immaculate when it was made up during our stay. The Orchid restaurant food was delicious and the service very good. We would have given more stars but for the check out experience whereby the receptionist told us she had been advised by the barman that “our friends had left the hotel and said we were to pay a £58.00 bar bill” ; we were absolutely astonished as we hadn’t had any friends staying with us at the hotel. After some discussion she agreed and we didn’t pay “our friends” £58.00 bar bill. However, the receptionist then produced two further bar bills for £19.50 and £10.50 which again was confusing as I always paid the bar bill immediately when I ordered drinks. However; I showed her the deductions on my bank statement account on my phone for the £19.50 but couldn’t find the £10.50 which I then paid her because we had intended to leave £10.00 tip for the room service cleaners who did a fantastic job. Hence the £10.50 we paid for the bar bill we didn’t recognise was this money we had for the cleaners tip. We tipped the Orchid restaurant staff £20 for very good service and we tipped the barman £5.00 which considering the barman’s comments to the reception staff giving us “our friend’s” bar bill we wondered whether we should have tipped the barman. Apart from the financial confusion above we found the hotel very good but a tip on future trips to keep all bar drink receipts. Special mention to the room cleaning staff and the Orchid restaurant staff.

Perfect Hotel with amazing staff. We have stayed at the hotel for one night in a dinner, bed and breakfast. We have been welcomed by Rebecca and Honor. Both of them helped us with the check in and parking. The room was very well equipped. The menu options for dinner and breakfast were very tasty. On check out we had the pleasure to speak to Taylor and Gerry. Again the check out prices went very smooth. We will be definitely coming back again.

We were so excited for our luxury afternoon tea with champagne……………. (65 pound!!!) What a disappointment. Bar staff friendly but all guests had to shout them as they stand behind the door chatting. After shouting the lady she led us to our ‘sofa’ with a table cloth on the coffee table. Very disappointing, no1 else having afternoon tea. Just guests checking into the hotel. A dog on the next table, drunk guests very loud. Felt like we were in the middle of a waiting room…. Felt abit stupid. Champagne was ok- staff didn’t make it feel very special. Afternoon tea came, yes the food was nice. But we just felt uncomfortable on the sofa eating off a coffee table. No music, just background noise of people checking into the hotel. My partner asked for no pickle on the sandwiches which was ignored. I think it all was pre made as the sandwiches were a little hard on the edges. 6 cakes each, which was a lot! And only 4 small fingers of sandwich each, no other savoury. No offer of other drinks. We left and mentioned to the staff at reception that it was very poor. And he said sorry but there’s nothing he can do…… very rubbish services from main reception. I will defiantly not be returning as it was the worst afternoon tea I’ve had - and extremely over priced. It wasn’t even worth 20 pound!

My wife and I stayed at The Grand back on 25/03/22 and we were so impressed that we just had to return. The staff are still helpful and friendly, the food is excellent and the room we stayed in was impressive. It was clean, comfy and had just been decorated and fitted with a power shower. The seagulls on our window sill could be quite noisy, but remember we are at the seaside! We paid £200 in total for bed, breakfast and evening meal, which I found to be excellent value. Disregard all the negative reports that you read about this hotel, make a visit and decide for yourself. Perhaps, if these people want 5 star, that will have to pay 5 star prices. We will certainly be visiting The Grand again.

I have just returned home from a Majestic Holiday stay at the above venue .I am going to be honest the room we stayed in was clean had fresh linen on arrival ,comfortable and quiet .It is a old hotel but the communal areas were good ranging from a grand foyer to a clean friendly reception .I have no criticism of the breakfast food and range of items,it was good.On the other hand the main meals were stodgy no inventive bland overcooked limited vegetables chicken legs that looked that they had come off very old birds pork steaks rubbery chewy and tasteless .On the last night I had scampi which was very good this was the only one of the 4 night meals I had whicn was worth eating.The sad thing is for dessert that night was I had with tinned fruit the poorest custard I have ever eaten watery made with just hot water and limited custard powder that is my last memory of the restaurant. .The bar was good earlier in the week the gentleman and the mature lady were very good hardworking and pleasant .The prices in the bar very reasonable the Tetley beer well looked after.The only team member who disturbed me was on the last night was DICK TURPIN a scruffy abrupt man wearing a black hand kerchief as a mask, did he have Covid making the bar team look like farce this did not give that area a very professional look.On checkout Imust congratulate the reception team who all holiday were attentive polite and professional..I have been truthful about this venue

Sadly had three rooms due to some issues reguardless how clean they were and a smell coming from the bathroom, third room was ok and had a nice view over looking the sea and Scarborough harbour, pool and spa a nice touch and the staff were all friendly plenty of choice on the menu for food, just needs to address a few issues to make this worthy of it's 4 star rating and that to me should be considered luxury where as this felt more just above average but not luxury 3.5 / 5 location amazing staff amazing let down by the fire alarm going off which steam was to blame air vents were dirty this needs looking at, house keeping need to work more alongside maintenance to ensure issues are addressed. Safe in second room was broken but maintenance did sort this and were very friendly, reception and spa staff all excellent, can't comment on the food but had plenty of choice and had we not made plans we would of considered the curry night the hotel had on. Over all 3.5 / 5

Quiet , clean and big room and friendly and helpful staff ( Dhiva and Adel ) they make our stay perfect . Please delete swimming pool option from the site . We booked the hotel because of the swimming pool and we found it closed since pandemic because of previous reviews from guests .

Good value for money with the real plus points being the friendly staff and good food. The hotel has a small pool which is big enough to get some exercise in. The breakfast was good quality and the evening meal was of a good standard. It was a shame the restaurant wasn’t used more in the evening and I can’t help thinking that a two courses for £17 and three for £20 type daily offer wouldn’t see it used more and reward the effort the chef puts into the meals Overall a good stay and the hotel did what it said on the tin. We would book here again.

Amazing B&B with fantastic sea View. The room was spacious and beautiful, very clean with king bed. They used pillow protectors and mattress protector that’s making our stay even better, we really appreciate ot. (Room no.10). The bathroom was big with a great shower and the water flow was very generous. They also provided with white bathrobes. The amenities you needed in the bathroom included hand soap, shower cap, sewing kits, organic shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. The breakfast was delicious and also continental breakfast was available (self service). We ordered our breakfast the night before which was perfect for us and we ordered what we needed. We love our cup of tea and they provided in the room with Yorkshire tea, green tea and herbal tea, biscuits, many type of coffees and also hot chocolate. Thank you to Luki she was very kind, friendly and attentive toward us, was always there for us when we needed her. It was our first time in Scarborough we really enjoyed our 3 night stay at The Helaina, we loved the walked from the South Bay to the North Bay, we also explored the area we enjoyed immensely being in the Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby Abbey. It We loved seafood while we were there we went to the Look out on the Piere twice, it was that good, make sure to book in advance. We loved the B&B we’ll come back. We had an amazing stay.
