Grand Hotel - by Classic Norway Hotels

The Grand Hotel is the largest building in Andalsnes (or tied with one other one), yet we had some trouble finding it after we disembarked from the incredible Rauma railway. Quite a bit of uphill walking with our carry-on bags that luckily have good wheels, and we had to ask locals to point us to the right streets for reaching hotel. Once found, a very nice lady checked us in and gave us a third floor room facing the back, as I always request this for a quiet room. To our dismay, it still wasn’t that quiet since the walls are paper thin and neighboring guests can be heard. Doors closing hard was common too. The room was snug as well, but we were fine with it as it was just for overnight. The breakfast buffet had plenty of selection, but my wife noticed flies landing on some food, so she suggests using prongs the take food from underneath that flies can’t reach. After breakfast, we took the wonderful gondola to the great overlook of the town and surrounding landscape. Wow, incredible views, even with overcast skies obscuring the peaks of the mountains in view. The nice front desk lady helped store our bags while visiting the gondola, and we walked back up the hill to pick them up afterwards. All in all, it’s a decent facility with some issues that can’t be resolved in terms of the way rooms and halls are built, but if only a short stay, it’s fine and the staff is nice.

Hotel is located in an excellent location, close to the tourist information center, the Mount Askla and the ferry terminals. The airport bus from the airport stop directly in front of the hotel, so will be very convenient for travelers arriving /departing by air. There are also many restaurants and a small shopping mall nearby. Was assigned a room facing west, so could have a great view of the sunset from the room.

We came back again, 5 years later, to reexperience this wonderful hotel and setting and just to sit in the lobby by the fire. Very special hotel, we loved the city, the location, the meals, the yoga class and gym. We were signed up for the baths but our luggage didn't make it in time.

The hotel's parking lot is large and self-driving is very convenient. The cost of parking for 11 hours is NOK230. The interior of the room is clean and tidy, and there are many people checking in and the check-in is very efficient. It is a very cost-effective hotel in Alesund.

Super 2 night stay. Great location above the town with a very attentive host who loaned us a map, which helped with a very nice walk to a nearby waterfall. There’s also a path almost straight down from the accommodation into the town, that avoids the twisty road. The room was lovely and with relaxing chairs to make it a very comfortable stay if we just wanted to chill. The residents’ kitchen is also a very good provision; we self catered both nights quite unexpectedly on the basis of it. Breakfast is taken at the next door hotel and is very good. All in all a super experience.

We stayed one nigth at The hotel on a sunday and it was quiet, The front desk area was very nice and had a Great feel. Calm colores and lots of seating. The restaurant was closed but the front desk staff was very helpful suggesting places to eat and alternatives they could offer as well. Outside the restaurant there is a cosy area where you can see the sunset. The breakfast is very good with a lot of options for allergies. And the staff kept it very nice, clean and stocked. The hallways look old but the room vas a pleasant surprise. Nice colors and mostly very clean. The only place they could do better on cleaning was under the bed as it was extremely dusty. Comfortable seating for both in the room and a great bed. The hotel is in the city center close to everything and also a short walk from a beautiful view at the viewpoint. All in all a great stay at this hotel and I would gladly come back and recommend it!

This is a hotel with a lot of years, the room facilities are a bit old, but the hygiene and service are particularly good. On the day we arrived, I didn’t know how to operate the parking payment machine. The young man at the front desk helped me with a enthusiasm. I really thanked you for running down and helping. The hotel restaurant has a beautiful environment, a wide variety of breakfasts and a great location.

Nice hotel , great breakfast , comfy beds , very central . Unfortunately any good ruined by the reception I received I arrived after long trip on Hurtigruten late at night and expected a friendly reception, when I arrived he said , not hello , not welcome but : ' does your brother smoke ?' I said I didn't know He said ' because I have seen him smoking cigarettes outside and they look like joints . You saw me outside when you arrived , I was looking at cigarette butts on the street to check if they were joints' I asked what time was breakfast , he wouldn't tell me he said , all info is written in that paper in the room key I told him he should say welcome instead of acting like police and accusing of crimes Naturally my brother was not smoking joints outside the hotel they were self rolled cigarettes All other staff members lovely normal friendly Everything else good in the hotel Who is this weird guy who was on reception? It's not the way to welcome guests (not a cheap hotel either) I was treated far better by every other Norwegian I met , he's not a good ambassador for the country or the hotel . Strange guy . Ruined the trip.
