It was an amazing decision to stay at Shimoda hotel. The location is good. We arrived easily. The room is spacious and the beds are comfortable too! Not to mention the dinner that we reserved was very interesting and a spectacle! We were quite lucky because there was fireworks in the area so we saw them from the restaurant in the hotel. I'd say the breakfast is also very worthwhile since there is a variety of food options and some quite unique to Shimoda.

This is a really nice, large Japanese-style hotel. The room was huge (the biggest I've stayed in for the same price in Japan), but it might be a bit out of the way, so it wasn't very busy. It's about a 15-minute walk from the subway station, but there's a shuttle bus you can book via Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform). The rooftop hot spring offers ocean views and is open until midnight and from 5 AM, so you can catch the sunrise there. The room also has great ocean views and is perfect for watching the sunrise. It's also very photogenic! However, there aren't many food options or convenience stores nearby. There are vending machines, so make sure to stock up on snacks beforehand. The walk to the hotel at night can be quite dark.

This hotel is indeed the closest to Gotemba Premium Outlets, but it still takes over 5 minutes to walk to the Hillside section. We took a taxi directly from Gotemba Station with our luggage, which cost 1900 JPY. The next day, we took the bus from the hotel entrance to Shinjuku, but it detoured through Gotemba city to pick up other passengers, and we hadn't even left Gotemba after half an hour. Be prepared for this if you're on a tight schedule. The biggest selling point is the view; one side of the hotel directly faces Mount Fuji, which is absolutely stunning. It was foggy on our check-in day, but we saw a clear view of Mount Fuji the next morning, and it immediately felt worth it. Regarding the hot spring: There's a large public bath, but we didn't use it. We pre-booked a private open-air bath for sunset, which cost 7500 JPY for an hour. Unfortunately, it was foggy that day, so we couldn't see Mount Fuji, which felt like a waste of money. Be mindful about dining. If you haven't booked dinner at the hotel, you need to plan ahead. Convenience stores and restaurants at the outlets close early. We ended up relying on takeout that night. There really aren't many options around in the evening. The room was just okay, like sleeping on the floor. This hotel is great as long as there's no fog. If you can't see the view, its only advantage is its convenience.

Stayed 2 nights at this lovely place. Hotel was very near the train station and within walking distance to many restaurants and cafes. The staff at this hotel were warm and I felt really taken care of. We were able to understand each other with simple English and Japanese. My room was spacious and had a great view of the sea and sunrise! The onsen in the room was big and I had a good time soaking in it. On my check out day, the staff gave me a back of kiwis that were farmed by the owner of the hotel. Would love to come back here again when I have chance!

The hotel's traditional, refined Japanese service is truly impressive. The traditional Japanese-style rooms are spacious and comfortable, with comprehensive amenities, including a private hot spring bath and luxurious massage chairs. The restaurant serves a semi-kaiseki style. While there's no room service, it's still a comfortable setting. Breakfast and dinner are elegant and sophisticated. While transportation to the hotel is a bit inconvenient, requiring a bus ride, the hotel is otherwise excellent, offering a relaxing retreat. The town also has some excellent dessert shops and restaurants.

The room was very spacious with direct views of the Pacific Ocean. Soaking in the private onsen on the terrace, you can take amazing photos that make it look like you're standing right on the Pacific. The hotel's location is a bit remote, but they offer a daily shuttle service to and from Izukyu Shimoda Station/Shimoda Station. The owner is Chinese and very kind, so there are no communication issues. The local specialty, Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) from the deep sea, was incredibly delicious.

Great location, quite close to the bus station, and there's a supermarket right across the street, making shopping super convenient. They have hot springs to relax in, and the complimentary curry udon noodles in the evening are definitely a must-try!

A heaven for car lovers, and I'm lucky to be able to visit this place, and also enjoy the drive experience with a top-up. Location is slightly away from everything so you are stranded unless driving (you should be), and you're just minutes from Gotemba with so much choice for food and drinks compared to the hotels choices that were in my opinion limited and costly. Lastly, as the hotel was a part of the museum, it was a bummer that we had to pay to enter the museum despite the high cost of the hotel.

The whole experience was comfortable, clean and quiet. The room was spacious enough for my family, as there were 3 of us. The buffet breakfast had a wide range of food. Location was well situated as it's within walking distance to the train station.

I was initially concerned that the rooms might be a bit dated before checking in, but those worries completely disappeared once I arrived. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. I won't share photos of the public areas as many others already have, but here are some room photos (P1-3). P4 shows the truly beautiful view from my room – you can see bamboo shadows, a flowing stream, and a charming bridge. The hotel service was excellent too. My only regret was not choosing the dinner-inclusive package; adding it on arrival cost 9500 JPY per person, which wasn't as good value as booking it in advance. I had breakfast, which was quite good, and the main dining area was absolutely beautiful. After 10 PM, the hotel even offers complimentary Chinese-style soy sauce ramen, which was surprisingly delicious. P5 illustrates the layout of the Mizunouta rooms. I noticed that rooms 106-108 would have poor privacy, as guests passing over the suspension bridge could easily see into them. I was assigned room 104. While checking out in the morning, I also managed to snap a photo of room 105 (P5), which looked equally appealing.

XXiaomuMUSI”This trip to Izu Kogen was made particularly memorable because of this B&B. As soon as I arrived at the B&B, the owner's warm welcome made me feel like spring breeze. The owner was very considerate. Not only did he introduce us to the surrounding attractions in detail, but he also gave us a lot of practical travel suggestions. The environment of the B&B is even better. The room is clean and tidy, and the layout is very warm and Japanese, making people feel as comfortable as at home. The public area is also very comfortable, and the hot spring ♨️ is also very suitable for families. It must be mentioned that this B&B is very close to the Jogasaki Coast, and it is very convenient to travel. You can just walk there, and the scenery along the way is also very beautiful. When we went back, it rained heavily and the tram stopped running. The owner took the initiative to contact us to help us find a way, and finally sent us to our destination. Thank you very much🥹 In short, this stay experience was great. I will definitely recommend this B&B to my friends around me, and next time I come to Izu Kogen, it will still be my first choice.”👍

CcometdebrisI stayed at Izu Ippeki Lake Lakeside Terrace for 5 nights booking though Trip.com. Be warned that problems may occur when booking through travel websites such as this one. I booked a standard room with no meals. What I did not know however, was that this reservation did not include any room cleaning services for the entire stay, no taking of garbage or towel replacement, no bed making, nothing at all. When I contacted the travel website to show my disappointment, they immediately contacted the hotel requesting a full refund. I did not expect a full refund for my entire stay. What I did expect, was for someone to acknowledge the fact that this important piece of information should have been indicated someone on the online reservation confirmation. Neither the travel site nor the hotel would acknowledge this. The travel site replied with a response from the hotel, saying that I was a regular guest and knew about this “regulation”. It’s true, I have visited Izu Ippeki Lake Lakeside Terrace on several occasions when housekeeping services were not included. However, this was clearly indicated on the reservation, and I stayed during the COVID STATE OF EMERGENCY, when it was standard practice for many hotels to exclude cleaning services. My recent stay was at the beginning of August, WHEN THE STATE OF EMERGENCY AND COVID RESTRICTIONS HAD BEEN LIFTED. It is no longer standard practice to exclude cleaning services at hotels in Japan. The hotel stated that I visited the front desk every day to get towels and never mentioned the need to clean the room. This is untrue. I only came to the front dest 2 times during my stay, and this is because room cleaning staff entered my room on 2 occasions, so I was expecting them to clean or take out the trash, but they did nothing and left. I expected them to return, however, they never did. The bottom line is the hotel is responsible for communicating their services to customers, especially after covid restrictions have been lifted. Blaming guests for their lack of communication is completely unprofessional. Now in regards to the hotel itself, I have stayed here on several occasions, I find it to be perfect, mainly because of the location and modest room size. The hotel is conveniently located near Lake Ippeki (Ippekiko) and there is plenty of nature and a few trails in the area. You can step out the door and be on a simple hiking trail within minutes. It’s a very quiet area and very good for children and families. Though the hotel is dated, the rooms are all quite large and include a living room, kitchen with cooking supplies and dishes (but no forks or spoons), a large bath, and both Western and Japanese style bedrooms. Some may be discouraged by the age of the hotel (it’s quite old and could use some renovation), but if you don’t mind that, then I would highly recommend staying here. One point that I need to mention is in regards to the bedrooms. The hotel has replaced their blackout curtains with super thin curtains which allow sunlight to easily shine through. We were woken up at 5:00 am every morning because of the bright sunlight in our room. If you’re a light sleeper, please take note. I wish management would consider this. Also, it’s highly recommended that guests come by car, public transportation is very inconvenient in the area. Overall, Izu Ippeki Lake Lakeside Terrace is a very convenient place for a reasonable price. I will definitely be staying here again in the future, but hope that they act with a little more professionalism and consider the fact that the covid state of emergency ended long ago.

GGuest UserIt was a wonderful place. Quite as I wanted. My room was with lovely details and everything well prepared. Train station was 6 minutes walk and the beach just across the street also 2 minutes walk only. With approx 15 minutes walk you could be in the next bigger area with food shops restaurants and the nice river. I could book a private 50 minute outdoor onsen time and it was awesome. The stuff are absolutely friendly and helpful. I felt so comfortable and had no wishes. I would come back.

MM49314****I really loved the room and its environment, facing the sea, I could watch the sunrise every day. The facilities and hygiene conditions were pretty average. There are three public indoor and outdoor hot springs available for use. The hotel has two guest room buildings with a very long corridor in between. To get to the hot springs or dining, you need to switch between different elevators. When I first checked in, I wasn't familiar with the layout and it was easy to get lost. The dining service was good; both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style with a rich variety of food, though there were slightly fewer fruit options. During the summer, it was crowded, so there were queues to be seated and to get food.

OOsama BoussifThe hotel was located about 3 to 4 minutes walking distance from Shizuoka Station, and there was a 7-Eleven at the base of the hotel, so you could even walk there in your pyjamas because you didn’t have to go outside. The hotel room was nice and spacious enough for two people, and it had all the amenities we needed. The laundry room was really good and was one of the few, if not the only, laundry rooms I encountered where you could pay with cash, card, or even online (Google Pay, Apple Pay, etc.). One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel did not have a smart TV, so YouTube or other streaming services were not available. This is something you sometimes miss when you return to your room early in the evening. This does not require replacing the TV, but simply adding a Google or Android TV dongle, which I would also suggest as an improvement. The only downside of the hotel was that the staff spoke or understood only limited English. In most cases this is manageable, because you do not need much beyond check-in, check-out, sending your luggage, or asking for an iron. However, in my case it involved renting a parking spot. Even though I used translation apps and tried my best to communicate, and the staff also did their best to understand and translate their side, it still did not work out. I ended up renting a parking spot just 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel in a public parking garage. In the end, this was not a problem, as you pay the same fee (1000 yen) for parking either behind the hotel or in the public garage 2 minutes away. However, my suggestion for the hotel would be to provide an English instruction sheet explaining what to do, where to park, and how the parking process works, so that future guests who wish to park will have clear information.

GGuest UserOverall this hotel's location is perfect for 1-3 days stay, but for longer stay you will need to take a taxi everywhere, its located too far. Even closest 7-11 is 1h walk away! Everything was fine, the room for 3 was enourmous, clean and fresh. Its located right at the zoo entrance, with a discount for zoo tickets. The only problem is its location - every restaurant around closes at 5 pm, so quite inconvenient. Even when we were looking on Google maps for an open restaurants and it said they were open - they were closed in reality. Spent almost 2h looking for food)) So you better ask hotel staff to find you a place to eat, even better if they call in a restaurants.

Vvodka17This was my second stay here. The hotel is nestled on a small hill, offering a very quiet environment. I booked the pet-friendly tatami room, and during my stay, I could take out pet supplies, making the tatami area convenient for dining and tea. The room service dining experience felt more comfortable and relaxed than eating in the restaurant, which was a plus. Breakfast was just average, though. One area for improvement: the forks provided with room service meals were too dull; it was difficult to spear meat. I suggest replacing them or using the same type of forks found in the restaurant for breakfast. The hotel's location is quite central on Izu Island, making it ideal for a driving tour around the island. Additionally, there's a small but convenient laundry room on the first floor, on the way to the main public bath. It costs 300 yen per wash, and there's also a dryer available.

GGuest UserBeautiful onsen — our favorite stay in Japan with my family! The traditional breakfast was delicious with a very large selection of dishes. The rooms are gorgeous, quiet, and spacious — and everything was exceptionally clean. The cleaning crew truly does an amazing job. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, making us feel warmly welcomed. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the train station, and having a washer and dryer available for guests was a big plus. Highly recommended — we would love to stay here again!
