Although at the beginning the relation with this hotel, didn’t start well, at the end we can say that it worth it. I don’t think it’s appropriate to tell the details of the inconvenient, considering that it was solved promptly. My wife and I for many years wanted to attend de Wine Festival “Fiesta de la Vendimia de Colchagua”, in Santa Cruz, and that is actually one of the best in Chile. After the pandemia, people that like to travel are thirsty to do what we couldn’t for a long time. Although we tried to arrive early to the hotel, it was not possible, work didn’t let us. We arrive approximately 11:30 PM and we were deeply impressed of the decoration of the access hall, very nice with beautiful antique furnitures. A very kind woman check us in and lead us to our room, we slept on the Merlot Suite (all suites are named under wine varieties), the room was very comfortable with a lot of space, decorated with old wooden furnitures very cozy, but with a lack of windows, the only one we had was inside the bathroom, although for us wasn’t a issue at all since we don’t have to worry about black out curtains, just keep the bathroom door closed to have a very dark room, that fortunately had A/C. The next day we had to put the alarm in order to be able to have breakfast,-it is only served until 9:30-, a little early considering that is weekend and some people likes to sleep a little longer. Beside that is a very good breakfast, with plenty of options. The only thing they didn’t have was a lactose free skim milk, but they served a very good French Press coffee. The hotel is about 4 to 5 blocks away the center of the town, we’re the “Vendimia” takes place, so is totally at a walking distance, and perfect, considering that you don’t need to drive back to the hotel, just consider that if you buy more wines that you can handle, those blocks will feel longer. On Sunday we had to make the check out as expected, I asked for an 1 hour extension for checking out at 1:00 PM, that was going to be charged at CLP$ 10.000 an hour. We just wanted to rest a little more, due to the early breakfast and also that we drink a little more that usual the day before, first at the “Vendimia” and then at the Santa Cruz Casino that is on the way to the hotel. Fortunately for us, it turned to be very good stay, we highly recommend the hotel if you want something more intimate and cozy, and that makes you feel that you’ve travel back in time. The hotel has free parking in a property that it’s just across the street. They let us leave the car there at no charge after check out, so we went to taste and get some more wines. Cheers

This hotel is stylish with a laid back vibe. The rooms have a natural feel with a comfy bed, effective shower and a good sized balcony with sun and shade. Pay a little for one with a sea view as it is well worth it. The grounds are well tended with lots of native plants and there are private sun beds, a giant chess and a mini skate park. There are two TV rooms both of which have Netflix and Amazon Prime. There are two swimming pools with ample loungers, low key music and shade and there is a spa with massages but I didn’t use it. It’s a great place to unwind for a few days on the coast. However there are a few things to know or you won’t enjoy it. 1. It’s about 2k from Matanzas up a steep hill and there are no taxis or Uber so if you go into town you need to drive and pay for parking. I wouldn’t advise walking back along the main coast road in the dark 2. Complicated food is not their thing. Breakfast which doesn’t start until 9 is simple and samey and apart from that they mostly serve pizza in the bar. If you want a coffee, you get one for free from reception. 3. There is no air conditioning. This didn’t bother us as we set up a nice through draft but it might some people. However there is a heater in the room. 4. The staff are young and friendly but if you don’t speak Spanish not many speak good English although they try and communication wasn’t a big issue. 5. No TV in the room and the Wi-Fi is a weak outside the main hotel buildings That said it’s probably the nicest hotel in Matanzas and armed with this info you should have a great stay

Stayed here for business and the location is the strongest aspect, with a good staff team running the show. The parking is also free beneath the hotel; but overall it’s all a bit dated and limited. That’s probably fine as most folks passing through are business and industry types, who don’t need to be fussed over, but having some amenities that worked would make the experience more comfortable.

Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza

An unusual property: sprawling across several colonial style buildings, with lush gardens and a pool, plus access to an excellent museum next door, plus access to a ******, plus two restaurants, plus a bar, all situated in the middle of Santa Cruz right on the town square. All a bit quixotic but has an odd charm to it and we enjoyed our stay. Can get a bit busy. Appears to be a popular place for families, so can get noisy around the pool for example. Good restaurant for dinner. The room was in average condition and felt a bit tired. The bathroom was tiny. Valet parking on site which was complimentary. Reasonably priced.
