Traveling around Chita Peninsula: Handa Red Brick Building

The Handa Red Brick Building is a former beer factory with extremely unique architectural structures, such as hollow compound walls and multi-arched floors, which are rarely seen today. The designer was Tsumaki Yorinaka, one of the three great masters of architecture in the Meiji era. In addition to the Handa Red Brick Building, he also designed the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and Nihonbashi (decorative parts). The site of the current Handa Red Brick Building was once the birthplace of cornstarch. Handa has a long history and culture of brewing, and cornstarch also originated here. Music events and workshops are now regularly held on the site, and the building sells local specialties and souvenirs brewed in Handa. Since it was formerly the brewery of Kabuto Beer, you can also visit the cultural materials for a fee.
