Our experience was okay overall, there were some notable points to mention. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the Universidade de Coimbra and Sofia Street, making it super convenient for exploring. The cleanliness of the hotel was impressive, which I really appreciated. However, the services could use some improvement; there were no basic amenities like a dental kit for the morning, and the lift was not functioning, which was quite inconvenient. My stay was good, but it definitely could have been much better with enhanced service and those basic amenities.
Great place to stay for a couple of days, beach, plenty of Resturants. Casino all steps away from the front door.
The hotel was calm, clean with extremely friendly staff.
The breakfast had loads of goodies.
Would not hesitate to stay again or tell a friend.
We stayed there for two nights. The bed was comfy and the shower was good. Yet, as a 4-star hotel, they didnt provide slippers and toothbrushes and toothpaste in the room...We checked in late and were exhausted, so didn’t want to ask for room service (we felt bad for not having small change for tips!)
The white shower curtain was a bit gross (mouldy/ stained)...as well as their toilet seat (yellow stains underneath)
The hotel is very good. When we arrived at the hotel, we were taken to our room without having to wait for the check-in time to complete. Hearty and delicious breakfast. The very friendly and attentive attendant printed out the transport options for us to go to the next city.
Nice hotel, very clean room, clean sheets, excellent service. A beautiful view of the garden and very well located, close to supermarkets, pumps and restaurants. The only thing left to be desired was check-in time, which was scheduled for 2pm but we arrived on time and had to wait 1h30 due to the lack of sheets.
The location of this hotel is very remote, more than 70 kilometers from the University of Coimbra, driving more than an hour. Don't decide if you don't have a car. The scenery on the road is still good. The hotel was converted from a monastery. In a very remote town, the hotel has a swimming pool and a vineyard. Breakfast is still OK. After the check-in, the front desk can help arrange dinner. The service staff took us on a tour of the hotel and there was a small church inside. The overall is good, it is far.
Hotel restaurant is very good. The breakfast had a decent variety specially taking into account the price per night.
The rooms are new but they are poorly insulated when it comes to noise, you can hear everything going on outside. If someone closes the door, you hear it like its your room.
The hotel has a good structure, comfortable accommodation and convenient location, cleaning was perfect and breakfast was varied and tasty.
However, I felt that the care could be a little more flexible in some situations, and small adjustments or a more active listening to the needs of the guests would make the difference to make the experience even better.
In general, it was a good stay and would return, turning for an evolution at that point.
The rooms are air-conditioned with warm and cold air, very clean and tidy, and the hot water is great. The ventilation fan in the toilet will automatically turn off at night and turn on during the day. Three languages are spoken at the front desk and the service is also very good. Overall the price/performance ratio is very good, the room can see the Mondego River, opposite the park, there is Burger King nearby, and the central street of Coimbra is 5 minutes' walk away. European hotels do not provide toiletries and there are no slippers in the rooms. Very satisfied.
A great hotel, a great service, and your staff are always available to help.

Great
AAndrewA superb historic property under private management and ownership - actually, in the ownership of the same family for over 400 years altho’ now a member of the Small Luxury Hotels marketing system affiliated with Hilton. The property in its adjoining Gardens are a destination in themselves, along with the nearby (400m) Santa Clara monastery. They may be sufficient for some visitors, but it’s about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Coimbra and it’s main historical area.
Arthur Wellesley - aka Viscount Wellington - was a visitor during his Iberian campaign, so you’re in good company.
Staff are superb and obviously hand picked by the owner. The receptionist when I arrived (Evening of Sunday 16 February) was simply the best I’ve ever experienced, Singapore, Bangkok and Tokyo included. Genuinely fascinating to talk to about the history of the building and some of the previous guests (famous but ‘passed’ celebrities so no confidence is breached).
Best to stay in the rooms in the main building if possible, if tales of the previous occupant intrigue. Although the spa Is impressive – up to best Thai standards - and I guess the adjoining spa rooms may be equally good.
Overall, an absolute gem that far exceeded expectations.
TToferHotel Astoria embodies 1920 chic French decor. Much of that fashion remains in tact, but in fairness, also reflects its age. The hotel's location right on the river provides easy access to most of Coimbra. However, the city is essentialy a giant hill, so a 10 mins walk along a steep slope may be a significant inconvenience to many. The staff is extremly friendly and works hard to provide a comfortable stay. There is no swimming pool and guests may want to bring some additional amendities (body lotion). Those may have been available, I never bother asking. Wifi is only available in public areas. Easy to check emails but not great for working in the room. Will definitely consider another stay if the price is competitive to other hotels.

MMatías RubioloSolar Antigo is a must-visit in Coimbra for anyone seeking a top-notch experience. We stayed in a room with a jacuzzi and a stunning view of the city, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was my wife’s birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and celebrated. They even included a small cake with a candle for the in-room breakfast—such a thoughtful touch! The welcome sparkling wine and cake were also a delightful surprise. Their exceptional attention to detail and outstanding customer service truly set them apart. Highly recommended for an unforgettable stay!
Aa4292The hotel is in the city center, within walking distance to the monastery, city hall, there are supermarkets and restaurants nearby, life is very convenient. Parking is free in the public underground parking lot not far away, very good. The breakfast tastes good.
SSamuelThe hotel is a good hotel with good accommodation and a good breakfast with good offer and variety.
The indoor pool is a very good experience, unfortunately the jacuzzi is damaged.
It has a gym with half a dozen machines and works.
The staff were always attentive and sympathetic.
GGuest UserGreat location, wallking distance to the main tourists street with all restaurants & shops. Across the street from Coimbra train station. (Not Coimbra B)
Beds are comfortable & the shower water pressure was amazing, their breakfast was great too, lots of fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, juice & all kinds if breads, pastries, coffee
etc. The young ladies at the reception were so kind & caring. The room, bed & bathroom were all spacious.
GGuest UserLocated in the centre of Coimbra, near the river and all the main tourist attractions of the city. The room was very comfortable and comfortable (by saying something the coats are of viscolatex are very hard, high) . The shower and toilet recreates the Joanina Library very original and comfortable with crystal mampares.
The hotel is very comfortable and very comfortable. We were kept in the baggage until afternoon without cost.
