This hotel seems to get some bad reviews but I think many are unfair. From what we experienced it was a good hotel, great location and the person who checked us in was very good. Especially as the she had to handle an awkward customer ahead of us. Bed was very big and had a good mattress. Usual stuff you want in a hotel room and nice complimentary toiletries.
Location of the hotel is ideal for exploring Inverness centre, less than a 10 min walk to the most famous bank machine in Inverness (IYKYK). There is limited parking but a reasonably priced multi story car park is only a few mins walk away.
Staircase in reception area leading to the first floor is also very impressive.
Very good, the only downside is that there is no front desk, you need to call to check in. Will give a code as the key. Those who do not speak English should use it with caution!
When you stay at Coille Darach B&B in Acharacle, you'll be 13 minutes by car from Loch Doillean. This bed & breakfast is 12.9 mi (20.7 km) from Shielbridge Hall and 13.5 mi (21.7 km) from Lochan a' Churraidh.

Make yourself at home in one of the 3 guestrooms.
It is a very nice house that you can have a sitting room of classic style and a bedroom with comfortable big sitting chairs and twin beds. The quality of bed sheet , pillow and blanket is comparable with high price hotel, very clean and soft. Landlord lady is pleasant and gentle. She is kind to offer breakfast at your choice. It is served in a dinning room well decorated. Enjoy our two-days in such a clean and warm house. If I will visit Ullapool again I will reserve this guest house again.
In fact, the room is not bad as a whole, but it is a homestay, the whole process is self-service, you can't check in early or check out late, you can check in at 3:30 in the afternoon, check out at 10:30 in the morning is really unreasonable, there are big spiders in the room, check out at 10:30 in the morning, the white sister who cleaned at 9:30 knocked on the door. Then 10:30 is very polite and very mean to say that you must leave immediately, do not understand, we are guests, how can this attitude be? ? ? We can also add money to delay a little more? I don't understand at all
Life B&B, not to be missed!
After a terrible homestay experience during a three-day trip to Scotland, I had to urgently find alternative options, and finally chose the nearest and rated 4.5 and above Maclean Guest Room. The moment I opened the door, I felt like I had a lucky hit!
The sanitation of the room is perfect, definitely a five-star standard, clean and tidy to touching; the location is also very convenient, travel is particularly worry-free; the landlord's service is more intimate, warm and thoughtful. What touched me most was that I told the landlord about the previous encounter and they not only expressed sympathy but also offered me a lot of extra help. The whole experience made me feel like I was saved!
If you come to Scotland to travel, Maclean Guest Room is definitely worth living, this is the real ”5+ level”!
The room is very good, fully equipped, close to the beach, close to the coop, the gas station is also very close, it is estimated that it is very good, the stay is relatively simple,

GGuest UserThe hotel is looking and feeling very tired and dated and in serious need of upgrading. They’re charging 2025 prices for 1980 standard services. They clearly cater for bus tours and large parties which are not there to appreciate where they are and their surroundings. There was serious problem with running hot water in the room as well as in the showers in the spa. I overheard many guests complaining about no hot water in their rooms at reception.
Breakfast was very disappointing, they offer a continental selection of one type of cold meat and one type of sliced cheese with pan loaf bread! Fort William boasts artisan bakery’s so no excuse there. During breakfast very loud 80s movie themed music is blaring, the dining room is so big there’s practically a speaker above every second table. When asked to turn it down we were met with a standard reply, “I was just asked to turn it up”. Totally unbelievable. Due to the large parties tables are not cleared fast enough nor cleaned, we had to clean and set our own table before we could eat and this is where we were directed to sit. Waiting staff are clearly not trained nor directed appropriately for a hotel boasting a high standard. We were not encouraged to dine in the hotel at all.
The exterior of the building is not only showing signs of disrepair but is also very dirty. They are missing the B in the main signage and is the first thing you see on arrival.
Positives: the room was clean although all views from most rooms do not look out onto anything nice. Temperature of the pool, steam room and jacuzzi excellent. The lounge bar appeared to have the best atmosphere and felt like a highland hotel.
Would I recommend this hotel? Definitely not!
Would I stay there again? Definitely not!
AAlyseFirst let me say that the owners were incredibly kind and accommodating. It pains me that to even write this but I thought fellow travelers should hear my experience. First, there are two aye stays in Inverness. My gps took me to the wrong one first. That was awkward. After I finally figured it out, the place was very cutely decorated with Scottish and Loch Ness decor. Contactless check in was easy however a board with everyone’s name and room numbers does not feel super safe for me a solo female traveler. But over all easy enough. Next I stayed in room 7 which is up a flight of stairs so make sure you pack light! (Which you should do anyway in Scotland.) My room had just been renovated with new carpet but it smelled like off gassing and I had to open the window (which was broken) there was a radiator for heat which I had no idea how to use. So it got a little chilly. Now here comes the problems: the rooms are very close together and the walls are paper thin. I was kept up until 3 in the morning hearing conversations and snoring. We were only given the choice of receiving breakfast between 7:30-8:30 in the dining room. So I woke up earlier than I would have liked to eat breakfast. Which was just okay. Nothing too outstanding to write about but again the hostess was very sweet. Overall I could see that they’re trying their best. But I would recommend sound machines in each of the rooms or something so people can have a good nights sleep. The location was pretty good and just over the bridge from the high street.
GGuest UserReally great Hotel. Cheapest around as well so don’t really get when people book cheap hotels and complain that it’s not 5* 😂. Location is amazing. The Loch is beautiful. Staff are really nice. Rooms have everything you need and are quite spacious. Food is really good although a wee bit expensive but still good sized portions.
MmunirahThe hotel was easy to find, located right by the main road. The rooms were quite small, and with luggage, the space felt a bit tight. However, there was a small outdoor balcony with a table and two chairs, which provided a nice spot to sit and eat.
The rooms looked modern and recently renovated. The bathroom was well-designed, featuring sleek black tiles and gold fixtures, and the hot water worked perfectly. One of the best features of the room was the separate sink area, along with a microwave and fridge. This was especially convenient for heating up food or enjoying ready-to-eat meals from the nearby Aldi if you’re too tired to head out. The room also came with a kettle, coffee, tea, and even a chocolate wafer as a thoughtful welcome touch.
There is no reception desk at this hotel, so it’s important to have internet access as check-in is fully digital. You’ll receive your room number via email just before your arrival. Make sure to complete the online pre-check-in to confirm your stay and receive further instructions.
Overall, it was a comfortable and convenient one-night stay.
러러브송It is far from the city center, but I think it is the best hotel for renting a car and traveling. I will use the hotel next time I visit Highland. It is also good value for money.
DDKencoI stay in this hotel once or twice a year. Its location is pretty good in relation to the centre of Inverness. Staff are always good and I look forward to the breakfast when I stay there.
Use of the pool and spa area is a nice bonus when staying there.
GGuest UserI found my one night stay at the Highlander Hotel to be very pleasant. My room was a generous double en suite and was spotless. As a solo traveller on a pedal bike I was pleased that there was a secure shed where I could leave my bike in confidence. The staff were very helpful over this and again when I reported that the tv wasn't receiving a signal. This was sorted very quickly with a new aerial cable. Breakfast was good, with plenty of fresh fruit and a choice of hot dishes. Great value and I'd certainly go back.
KkolakolaThere are not many hotels in Fort William that are open in winter. This one is the best value for money in winter. It is about a 20-minute walk from the center of the city. There is a large free parking lot and the room is clean and spacious.
GGuest UserWe stayed at 5 star Dornoch Station on. B & B basis for 1 night. The room was good the receptionist and bar staff were all good. However, the breakfast was horrendous. Totally shambolic, we were served Luke warm coffee from a flask, my wife ordered porridge with honey only, without the accompanying raspberry compote and almonds. After a long wait a full porridge with everything was delivered - which my wife didn’t want and couldn’t eat. I ordered a poached egg on toast which looked good when it finally arrived. First bite I had to spit out onto the plate. Full of egg shell, not just an odd piece, but a mouthful of them. We were offered replacements, which we politely declined and immediately checked out of the hotel to find somewhere else decent to have breakfast. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this issue - very dissapointing and not acceptable from a so-called 5 star establishment.
