The hotel is very grand, which gives us a feeling of a posh holiday without breaking the bank. Staying in such a centrally located and stunning place adds value to the trip. The only thing I wasn’t thrilled about was the size of the room. We chose the cheapest one, so we got what we paid for.

Lovely hotel . Please note stairs up to reception. Rooms are small. Found bed not comfortable. Overall location is perfect for the travelling to station.

Excellent stay! Got upgraded so we have more privacy and nice view! Excellent location, friendly staff, clean and beautifully maintained! Will definitely come again!

I arrived late evening after a long journey and received a lovely welcome and an upgrade upon checking in. Both the hotel and the room were stunning. The stair case alone is so beautiful. My bed was super comfy and my room had a roll top bath and a separate rain dance shower. The water pressure was great for such an old building too. I also had a view of York Minster. It’s right next to the train station but also easy walking distance to the city centre.

Located right next to the train station (look for the York Tap and there’s a steps-free entrance right next to it), this historic hotel offered me the best hotel accommodation experience. Lovely breakfast and afternoon and drinks. The room is temperature controlled and you can stay cool in the hot days!

The room is smaller than what we expected based on the photos. Some of the rooms including mine was is dated. The door at mine swung closed because the hinge wasn’t working well.

Very clean and comfortable, everything was perfect! Definitely will be back again.

Great location! Especially if travelling by train, hotel was quiet and rooms spacious. Staff were efficient and friendly. Would stay again.

Absolutely beautiful hotel in a great location, 5 minute walk from the city. Inside the hotel is amazing and quite grand. We choose a garden view room which was a bit small but the view was amazing, all the way to the minster. Breakfast can get a bit busy as the area is small but it was nice. The spa was lovely but again small and can get busy. Overall a beautiful hotel in an ideal location.

Lovely hotel would highly recommend. Excellent location and lounge area fantastic. Would make such a difference if hotel would either advise residents on arrival or put a sign on the service area in the Garden Room when it closes. We sat watching around 5 different people wait and look for service in the evening to be eventually told that they had to go to the main bar The Swollen Gambler situated a fair distance from the Garden Room to get drinks themselves. Also our Garden Facing Room was particularly dark outside the bathroom where there was a full length mirror that you couldn't see yourself in day or night and no light available there.

The hotel is excellent. The location is great! The room is very spacious and the ceiling is very high. Room is clean and the air conditioner doesn’t make any noise. Will stay here again! Highly recommended!

Our room was in the annex part of the building. It wasn't anything special. The room was dark and overlooked the Royal Mail post office. It was in desperate need of a lick of paint particularly the ceiling. The furniture was shabby and carpets well worn and not particularly clean.The bathroom was reasonably clean except for the skirting boards. The main part of the hotel was in better condition. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. The hotel was well situated to walk into York. Parking was £20 a day and there was plenty of parking available.

Great location with elegant decoration, definitely a great hotel in the town.
