From the moment we arrived at Barceló Maya Colonial, we felt welcomed and cared for. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient—nothing was too much trouble. Their warm smiles and helpfulness really made our stay special. The food was outstanding! Every meal offered an amazing variety, from fresh local dishes to international favourites, and everything was bursting with flavour. The buffet was excellent, and the à la carte restaurants were an absolute treat. Entertainment was great fun, with something for everyone—lively evening shows, music, and activities during the day if you wanted them, but also plenty of space to just relax. And the beach… absolutely dreamy. Soft white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and enough loungers for everyone. It’s the kind of place you picture when you think of a tropical escape. We left feeling relaxed, happy, and already planning our return. If you’re looking for a mix of luxury, fun, and pure Caribbean beauty, this is the place.

This resort was my second all-inclusive resort during our holiday in Mexico. I was super happy with the resort. At night, we enjoyed the animation team performance. They have several restaurants to book for dinner, but buffet restaurant was always open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 1. Food I did not have many complaints about the buffet restaurant. It has a great variety in food. I am not a picky eater. The fruits were fresh and tasty. 2. Room The room was outdated, but it was still ok for us. We have everything inside our room. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom is also spacious. The hot water and amenities were there for us. 3. Swimming pool The swimming pool was amazingly clean and also huge in size. 4. Beach The beach was super amazing. The water, the wind, and the sun were perfect! I loved it so much.

The best family friendly resort in Riviera Maya. Will definitely recommend specifically Azucena Herrera was so kind and welcoming with drinks at the pool also Guadalupa en someone that help me at the lobby bar with a name I can't pronounce with H so so kind ans friendly. Love the atmosphere and sooo much space to lay around and activities. Also 6 different holtels with in that you can roam and catch some activities.

We had a great time at the resort! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The kids especially loved the Kids Club — huge thanks to all the wonderful girls who worked there and made it so fun for them. It was a fantastic family vacation, and we’d definitely come back! Our 2nd time visiting the Barcelo Maya Tropical. Huge resort, always something new to check out or somewhere new to hang out at! Our girls loved getting out of the sun and joining in the fun with the ladies at Barcy Colonial! We remembered Sarahi from our last trip, which made things that much more exciting to be back! Thank you Sarahi, Lulu, Susana and Zaira for all the Fun and taking care of our girls! We look forward to next time!

This was our 7th trip to Barcelo. We stayed at the colonial which we have before. The actual hotel does not play a factor into our trip. This was our first spring break experience and we knew it would be busy. We arrived early (1:30 pm) and knew our room would not be ready until 3:00pm. At 3:00 we approached the desk and was told to return in 15 minutes, then 30, then 1+ hours. Eventually, they gave us a different room. We had to bring our own bags up (not really an issue but they bring everyone else's up...) upon entering the room, we found the safe and fridge to not be working. We went back down with our luggage and were finally placed back in our original room. This is now at 5:30pm. Things definitely went up from there, the food was decent as always, you can always find something you like. We were able to get our dinners booked. But the resort was packed and so understaffed. The bartenders and waiter/waitresses worked so hard to try and keep up. I felt terrible for them. The beach was lovely per usual and the marenostrum, Capri and Kyoto were delicious! Overall, I think we will venture somewhere else next year.

Overall, the resort is beautiful and perfect for families. The rooms do need a little updating, and would be nice to have more activities for teenagers, but overall good family resort.

10/10 Barceló is a fantastic deal. The waitstaff is on point and the facility is beautifully maintained. Iguanas can be seen off the path among beautifully landscaped scenery.

Hotel was beautiful but overall not worth the stay. Staff were super snobby and unwelcoming. Every time we went to eat, we were never attended well once you were sat down at a table. If you wanted a water refills, utensils, etc. you had to get up and get it yourself. We had to the same in the pool and beach not once did we have a staff come take our drink orders. We would need to walk to the bar to place an order ourselves. There was also one night our room was not clean and we were not given an explanation or anything as to why it was not done. Also during our check out they were giving us such a hard time about the pool towels. Not sure if they were doing this to charge us a fee for them but turns out we were right and they did not have the decency to apologize. We did not feel well service during our whole stay. Probably only 3-4 staff interactions were actually good which is very poor for a high quality hotel like this. Will never come back and definitely never recommend to any of my friends and family.
