A short stay but an enjoyable one, great staff and service. Especially at brekkie with Patsy and other members of the team, really made everyone feel welcome! Would recommend a stay here

Nice and decent hotel located just in front of the costal line. Got everything you need in the room (except smart TV). Breakfast is the best part of the stay, which included a list of English breakfast of your choice (egg Benedict, American pancakes, Full English breakfast etc), coffee, juice, fruit and bread. It was a lovely experience with friends and family.

The Marine Hotel in Had provided me with the best sea view, offering a peaceful and picturesque stay. The friendly hotel staff added to the pleasant experience, and the breakfast was enjoyable. However, the way to my room was a bit unconventional, with a maze of staircases leading up to it – a memorable and amusing aspect of the hotel stay. Despite the quirky path to the room, the stunning sea view and welcoming staff made for a delightful and memorable stay at The Marine Hotel.

We were given a Marine Hotel gift card by friends. When we went for lunch and presented the gift card we were told lt had expired even though there was no such date on the card! In correspondence with Shepherd Neame, the hotel owner, we received short shrift without a shred of empathy. It would appear they are totally profit oriented with no concern for client relationships and goodwill. We will be avoiding Shepherd Neame establishments in the future and will support more deserving independent establishments. Needless to say we are very disappointed with our visit and would urge Shepherd Neame to perhaps return to their core values.

Lots of plus points: comfortable room, good breakfast, great beer! Staff really friendly except for the waitress at dinner, who looked as if she'd rather not bother. Lovely location on the seafront. My steak was tough at dinner - should have complained, but we don't do that, do we? We'd come back to the Marine - and to Whitstable obviously, such a place!

After having to call the hotel to locate their car park, we managed to get a parking spot at the rear of the hotel, be warned that parking is at a premium at the front of the hotel and at the rear and the car park soon filled up. We arrived at the hotel with some fairly heavy luggage and approached reception to complete our check in. We were 17 minutes before the 2 pm book in time and were told that we had to wait before we could book in. So, we parked our luggage at reception and duly waited until 2 pm. The receptionist wouldn’t even start the process before 2 pm and was adamant about that, so we waited. the receptionist wasn’t at all friendly and was the most frosty unwelcoming person I encountered during our stay, and that wasn’t just my assessment, as my wife had a chat with her trying to be friendly however that failed miserably; not a great start to the weekend... We were then checked in very quickly (as I had done most online before arriving) and given a key to the room, although things did get better as a very nice chap took our baggage up to the room which was most welcome. One thing that is very evident is that the hotel is tired, the upper hall, stairs and landing carpets are worn and shabby, with bedroom furniture from the 1980's. Bedroom furniture surfaces were marked and in places chipped and shabby and could do with replacing. I hadn’t expected the room décor, based on the price I had just paid for two nights which was more than I pay for a double room in central London!!! The other staff we met at the hotel during our stay were very friendly, thorough and couldn’t do enough for us which was nice. The evening meal we had on Saturday was excellent and very well presented, with the hotel offering the option of a cooked breakfast each morning, cooked to order, was lovely although if you’re having the full English don’t have the potato rosty thing as its like a deep-fried mini disc. Whitstable is lovely and whilst i would come back to the town for a stay I would probably not book this hotel. I am basing my average score based on the worn decor in the rooms and a very unfriendly start to the weekend.

Enjoyed our stay at The Marine but our stay was very much a case of upstairs & downstairs. Downstairs is a great area. Nice bar & beautiful breakfast/dining room. Nice choice & quality ingredients for breakfast. However, upstairs was different. Average amenities but room was very tired with old fashioned scratched furniture. Would expect much better for the price, especially cleanliness. Don't like to end a review on a downer so would say all the staff were friendly and professional. Would visit bar & restaurant again but wouldn't stay overnight.
