The Swan Hotel Wells ★★★★

"This is a fabulous hotel. First time I have stayed with a member of this group but will definitely not be the last. A former coaching inn, it has rooms in the main building together with the restaurant and bars plus other rooms in converted buildings to the rear. My room, which I’m sure is typical, was beautifully decorated and furnished with plenty of space in both the bedroom and bathroom. Cleanliness and fittings throughout the whole hotel are to a very high standard. The restaurant offers a good range of dishes; I had 2 evening meals there and both were very well prepared and presented. The only downside here is the car park. The entrance may have worked well for a coach and horses but the different coloured paints along the walls prove that, with a narrow space and 2 tight turns, car drivers are less successful. If your vehicle is wider than average or has a long wheelbase don’t even consider it."

The Ancient Gatehouse & Rugantino Restaurant ★★★

"I loved the surroundings of this hotel. It's a truly medieval setting. There's a monastery right outside the entrance, which you can visit and is truly spectacular. There's also a castle-like ancient building surrounded by a moat with swans. The stairs to the rooms are quite interesting. Breakfast is made to order and is delicious. It includes bread, sausage, and scrambled eggs, as well as bacon and black pudding. Parking is available right outside the entrance. We arrived at 9 PM and left at 10:00 AM the next day. There was no charge for this time. If I were to visit Wells again, I would choose this hotel again. Thank you for your warm hospitality! It made you feel right at home."

"Excellent location Walking distance to Wells centre and short drive to Glastonbury. We went to Rock n Ribs festival at bath and wells show grounds perfect for that. Morrisons just across the road great for anything you’ve forgotten. Room was brilliant aircon actually worked really well and was quiet!!! Very clean lovely staff especially Dylan who helped us with our car parking. Thank you so much. Best premier inn we’ve stayed in. Great price very reasonable. Lots of parking. Got back late and it was not an issue."

"We ate twice at this lovely country pub. Food was very tasty and plentiful. We ate off the specials menu - tasty curry and salmon dish. Also had lasagne off the main menu. The homemade ice cream was delicious - so yummy ( ginger especially). The owner, Peter, came and had a chat with us and him and his staff were very hospitable. We loved the shop there - such a great idea in this small village!"
