It’s a beautiful building but it’s really old. It’s like frozen in time. The elevator did not work which is a problem with taking your luggage to your room. The electric installations are inefficient. The bathroom was very small. The TV sistem is really slow. It’s a good place but has a lot of things to improve.

Nice option in walking distance to everything
We very much enjoyed our stay here. Didn’t realize about the dress code until we received an email, but it wasn’t a problem as we didn’t plan to use facilities beyond entering/exiting the hotel. Has a lot of charm to it and is in the perfect location in Victoria near the Harbour. Note: if you have mobility issues: it looks like after a few months, the elevator is still not functioning. If you are coming during warmer days, note that there isn’t air conditioning so can get quite uncomfortable overnight, but they did add a fan to the room. Overall a very nice stay!

Not a family friendly hotel but happy to take your money as a family booking. Children are only allowed to eat at breakfast. We were then advised that our young child could not sit anywhere in the hotel outside of our bedroom. We were given a dress code at the time of booking but were not advised that children are not welcome. I had packed all of the correct clothing for my kids but it was a waste of time because they weren’t allowed to be present in the building . As a family of 4 we were provided with x2 towels. Our beds were made however toilet tissue was not replaced. One roll provided with no extras and the empty roll was left hanging. Then we spotted a mouse running through the dining area.

My regular room looks vastly different from any marketing pictures in their website. No signage outside, all carpeted with 100-oldish carpet, no air conditioning (they are so proud to provide a tiny also ancient fan), no elevator (maintenance in July), none of the doors shut properly, really need sleepers to walk around. Stunned that I was given a big steel-made room key. Location is good. That's all I can say..

Union club is not just the name, they are actually a club. In the property details they said they have on site parking but when we got there they said on site parking is for club members only.. so we had to park 2 blocks away. Then they said to use the club amenities you need to follow club’s dress code, we travel with a carry on, how do you expect me to bring 3 shoes to accommodate your dress code. And no elevator… they send us an emails 2 days before or stay that there is no elevator. On top of all these no AC.

Amazing location, close to everything and walkable. Lots of old world charm and very nice staff. Don't book this place if you don't want to adhere to their dress code -- they make it very clear, and it's part of the charm.
The breakfasts and dinner we had at the restaurant were even better than expected. Some of the rooms have been redone, and so have not, so there is a variety of quality there. If you can splurge for the harbor view, it's lovely. May want to ask if the room you'll be assigned has been remodeled. There aren't enough plugs for modern electronics near the bedside, which I guess isn't surprising, but also a little frustrating in 2025. Also, the elevator is still out; we knew it was being remodeled in June, but thought the work was sheduled to be complete by end of June. It was still going on in the first week of July, just FYI.

The luxurious historical aesthetics of the hotel and rooms were excellent. It is beautiful and elegant. The room was comfortable, and spacious. Guests with mobility issues may find some challenges.

This is a super location for exploring Victoria. The room was spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel is not really a hotel as we would know it. No air con. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. This is step access ONLY. Many stairs and no working elevator. The poor staff had to call for anyone to help with luggage. They also operate a before 11.00pm curfew which meant we had to make sure we returned before 11.00pm as we did not have a Canadian phone to call for access. We did enjoy our time here but this is a hotel which needs to compete with others around offering the 4* service one would expect for the price.
