Hotel Palma Real

This is our first time back to the Palma Real since 2019. When we came then the hotel was in rough shape but today they have made improvements. They have new mattresses and pillows that are very comfortable. They have painted the hotel and are making repairs. The pools have been fixed and are very clean. The rooms have been painted also. The food …… well it’s Cuba. You can’t be a picky person when coming to Cuba. In Canada we can get anything and everything but remember here they can not. The food is pretty much the same everyday but for us it’s ok. You can’t be eat in the resteraunts here the food is great. The Cubans are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. People say oh Cuba is bad now but actually it is not. Varadero is still amazing just no tourist which is a shame because they are missing out. Yes there are certain things you can’t get but remember they can’t get things like Canada. You have to have an open mind when coming here. The Cubans are hurting without tourists because that’s how they survive. As for Palma Real it is getting better and better and hope it continues to get better. It’s central to all the bars and party areas and short walking distant to the beach. Don’t be hating on the Cuban people because of what you hear on tv. Come and experience it. See how lucky we Canadians are. Yup the waitresses, the cook, the bartenders,your maid and the gardener as they all deserve it because they work from morning to night in the heat and the tips help feed their families. For the hotel if they read this you need to replace your mirrors in the bathrooms. Maybe if and when you can upgrade them a little.

Check in was easy, Bellman took me to the room and told me about the resort. The Beach is. Short 5 min walk from the hotel. The Bars make several different drinks but no soda for mixers. Room was comfortable, nice balcony. Air only cooled to maybe 75-77 f. Hot water for shower was best between noon and evening. Buffet was good , food was a little repetitive but always something good to eat. Be sure to ask for Daymaris's section , she is the best employee at the buffet maybe the entire resort, she works dinner meals there. I never went to the à la carte restaurant, because of the great service I got at the buffet. Hop on hop off bus 5 min walk , lots of shops and restaurants in downtown Varadero , just out the door of resort. Cab to airport is $40.

Excellent service. Reception and checking very fast and efficient. Very professional staff especially Greter from the VIP Concierge Lounge (Salón VIP de Conserjería). She is incredibly friendly, helpful, and extremely polite. She ensured that we get everything that we need and provided us with useful tips. I recommend Meliá Antillas in Varadero for quiet and relaxing vacation. Beautiful Beach.
