Valletta Lucente Guest House

I have just had a 9 day stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast and highly recommend you stay here. The property is in the centre of Valletta and is in a great location for seeing all the sights of the capital and only 5 mins walk to the bus terminal. The bed and breakfast is full of charm and is very exquisite and the owners Dorothy and Charles spent a great amount of time and effort in creating an amazing Property. I had originally only planned on staying for one night, I was on my way to Greece but instead I was so impressed with Valletta Lucerne that I stayed 9 nights and wish I could have stayed longer! As I booked last minute I got to experience a few of the rooms and the penthouse suite on my last night and each one was tastefully designed and furnished and were heaven to stay in. They have really captured the feel of Valletta with their design and I love the vibe and energy. Dorothy and Charles are fantastic hosts and full of great information and made me feel very special and looked after. The staff were also extremely helpful and courteous and nothing was ever any trouble for them. The healthy home made delicious breakfast each day was great to wake up to each morning and was so filling I never ate lunch once in my whole stay. This has had to have been one of the best accommodation I have stayed in and as an International flight attendant I am fortunate to stay in some very nice hotels with my work, however this was definitely my favourite and I can’t wait to return here again in the future. Thank you Dorothy and Charles you certainly made my trip to Malta very special and one I will remember.

We stayed 5 nights and it felt elegant and warm/homelike. Our hosts and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were extensive with much homemade. There is so much care and beauty in this restored home (3 homes originally). We had the Penthouse Suite, with a rooftop deck and totally mind-blowing view, and the unit also had a second lower deck more protected from wind and sun. Central location, so much right outside the door. We will come back.

We stayed for 1 night in the Lunziata room and 4 nights in the Layla room. I would not recommend the Lunziata room as it is quite dark (no exterior windows), small, and noisy, but the Layla room was much nicer and more spacious. We enjoyed it the terrace, but the stairs were a bit hazardous and there are no lights on the second level so we couldn’t enjoy it at night. Additionally, the shower is next to the bed with no door and the bathroom is separate down the stairs, also with no door, so you don’t have any privacy. Also, reminder that they require the deposit in cash which is a bit of a hassle. The biggest issue we had is with the breakfast. There were so many flies on the food that my husband initially mistook them for seeds. The fruit was rotting. Dairy items like milk and yogurt were left sitting out, and tasted warm and sour. The coffee was undrinkable. Some of the other food was mushy and had clearly gone bad. I have never seen such an unsanitary food display, it was so bad I would think it would be illegal to serve food in that condition. We ate breakfast elsewhere after the first day so we wouldn’t get food poisoning.

It is hard to put into words how good this place is! We were looked after very well by Dorothy and the staff - it was like home from home. The location is amazing - we were able to step outside and get a drink or light meal from one of the cafes or walk a few steps up the hill and enjoy the choice of restaurants on Merchant street. A little further up the hill, we were in the middle of Republic street with its shops and the fabulous St John's Co-Cathedral. If you are looking for a recommendation - look no further!

Stayed in the Victoria room and it was gorgeous! Staff was great and breakfast was tasty. 10/10 would stay again!

We recently stayed at Valletta Lucente Guest House for our 5th wedding anniversary and had the most beautiful stay. The guest house is charming upon arrival with an abundance of historical features, gorgeous high ceilings in the breakfast room and various murals on the staircase walls of the hallway. All of the staff were so welcoming when we checked in and kindly spent time showing us places of interest on the map, many of which we wouldn’t have known to have visited. We can’t express how stunning our room was! We stayed in the suite which was honestly the most beautiful hotel room we have ever stayed in. Our room was also decorated for our anniversary with swans and rose petals which was a lovely touch. The location is excellent, you step straight out of the guest house into the heart of Valletta and within minutes you can walk to all of the main attractions and enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants on the stairs which had a lovely atmosphere. We also loved the ceramic shop within reception, all of which are handmade, and purchased a beautiful ceramic tile which is so unique and reminds us of our holiday. We highly recommend this guest house and will be booking to stay again next year as we plan more trips to Valletta.
