We had a great family stay at Cumberland Hotel - a hidden gem in the heart of the city. The staff were kind and helpful, the room was clean and quiet and the vegetable breakfast was absolutely delicious. Perfect for families. Highly recommended!

Staff are very nice and friendly. Room is big and clean. Location is perfect - 10 mins walk to to Valletta bus station which can take us to anywhere, 5 mins walk to Gozo high speed. There are also a variety of food to choose from breakfast.

We had a beautiful terrace room, gorgeous view and location was absolutely sensational. The staff were gorgeous and restaurant was delicious .. this hotel was one of our favourites whilst travelling. This one is definitely a must if visiting Valletta

We stayed for four nights, and at £160 per night I expected considerably better. The positives: The location is outstanding, right in the heart of Valletta’s bustling centre. Do note that it can be noisy, so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Petra and Janette at the front desk were both warm, professional, and genuinely helpful; the only two staff members who seemed to care about the guest experience. The shower water pressure was excellent, and the room was spacious and generally clean, with a charming Maltese balcony overlooking the main street. Where the hotel fell short: I wasn’t initially going to detail the shortcomings, but being refused a single bottle of water — after being told water would be replenished daily — was such a surprise that I felt compelled to share a deeper review. I found myself reminding the front desk that while my simple request for water had been denied, the wall light in my room was still flickering despite being reported twice for loose wiring. I did eventually receive one 500ml bottle (with attitude), but by then, the experience had soured. It was, unfortunately, the straw that broke the camel’s back. So, for the benefit of future guests and management, here is an honest account: Wall light fixture – very loose and flickering. Reported the first night via the maintenance form and verbally, then reported again the next morning. Maintenance attempted to fix it late on the third afternoon, just as we returned to the room to rest after a full day out. After 15 minutes of struggle, I asked them to return once we’d checked out. Ironing board – broken. To the cleaner’s credit, she/he noticed and reported it, but despite an attempt to fix it, it remained unsafe and unreplaced. Future guests should be careful – it could easily collapse. Drinking water – in Malta, the tap water is desalinated and mixed with groundwater, so it’s not pleasant to drink. Yet after the single complimentary bottle provided at check-in, no further water is supplied. For a hotel at this price point, that’s poor practice and easily remedied. Especially when I returned two tins of complementary Kinnie and requested water instead. Complimentary snacks – two small bags of local snacks were provided by the coffee station. We left them unopened to enjoy later, but they mysteriously disappeared after housekeeping visited on day three. Why remove them? Cleanliness oversight – my husband leaned on the sofa cushion and discovered a half-eaten biscuit underneath. Not what you expect to find in a “clean” room. Air conditioning leak – water was leaking in the bathroom. It was fixed once reported, but the staining and water on the floor suggest it had been an issue for some time and should have been noticed by housekeeping. Mosquitoes – the room was full of them. My husband was covered in bites, and I counted around eight myself. We bought citronella, but these mosquitoes were unfazed. Torn bathrobe. Breakfast – decent range, though n
