What a wonderful gem this is - a refurbished colonial Portuguese private house, bought to life by brother and sister team Simon and Charlotte Hayward with real love and attention to detail at every corner. The Hayward storytelling is all around you - and you are made to feel like family from the moment you arrive. The rooms are all unique and have lovely a/c - we stayed in Konnegar which had a huge double bed and cast iron bathtub - and the staff are always attentive but never invasive. The kitchen doubles up as reception and wonderfully social bar in the evening under a vast cooling fan. The house dogs are great characters and generally in the way wherever you go! The food is delicious - we ate out most of the time but they always check with you at breakfast - and then the team send you off to visit their favourite eateries within a short distance, usually great value beach restaurants. They sent a car to collect us from the airport which was a nice touch, only 45 mins away. We then hired a scooter nearby for the week, very cheap at £5 a day, and did our discovering on that, usually combined with relaxation around the pool later in the day. They also had push bikes and even a private tuktuk! South Goa wasn't very busy, as the season was coming to an end, but it was still 35 degrees every afternoon and not a cloud in the sky. Sometimes it's nicer to be a little back from the beach (5 mins on bike/max 15 minute walk), and Majorda is not particularly busy. The whole experience is delightful - we were beautifully looked after like old friends. Great value too.

We spent two lovely nights here and wish we had booked a third. Hosts and fellow guests made us feel extremely welcomed and provided lots of travel tips as well as good company. We had one evening meal that was well prepared, but note the menu is more British than Indian . Pool, room and common areas are spacious and inviting.

We stayed here 10 years ago and were delighted to go back. A super friendly hotel, management, staff and guests. Lovely to sit round the big table for meals. Excellent food. Good breakfast. The rooms are all different and quirky. The staff very efficient and helpful. Lots of advice and help organising things to do and see. Beautiful beach to walk to, a lift if feeling lazy in the heat. Would love to go back for a third time!

Located in the peaceful village of Majorda, this property emphatically reflects its colonial heritage. The rooms in the Portuguese era portion of the house take one back to the days of the Raj. Our bedroom was excellent and had a terrace facing the front garden, a very comfortable bed and a sizeable bathroom (with period tub). Breakfast is served around a large communal table and offers Indian and Western options. There is also a good dinner menu. The garden has a pool and is an agreeable spot for relaxing. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A word of caution: this property is not ideal for those visitors who dislike dogs!

We just had a couple of nights here before we left Goa (for India!). The Chummery was lovely, the pool area delightful and the food was great (though we ate a-la-carte both nights as the 'dinner' was English food). Quite expensive, but that is the way of Goa nowadays. Nearby Braganza mansion (both wings) was spectacular.

Been here for two weeks - it has been bliss! We cannot fault this lovely place - staff are exceptional, food is amazing and we were looked after so well. The house is full of family antiques and comfortable places to sit and relax. Lovely pool area. Beach a 15 minute walk away.

The house is gorgeous and full of history. Simon and Preeti are extremely hospitable and accommodating. They surely have ensured an extension of their hospitality in the boys who run the whole, the staff is extraordinary and extremely helpful ! Food taste great and the CHERRY ON TOP are Kitten & Jiglo their two dogs ! One of the best solo trips I have had in a long time :)

A beautiful heritage property, with the peace and charm of South Goa, this place is a treat to stay in. The team is delightfully pleasant and do their hospitality stuff to the utmost care. The owners are genuinely caring and helpful and want your stay to be memorable. Right from the selection of lovely flowers (often from their own garden) in the decor, to the collection of art and artifacts, the place is extremely well kept. The lovely pool is an added delight. Try to have a meal here during your stay, or else you will miss out on some really yummy preparations. We visited for a special occasion in the family and the team there went all out to help us and arrange for things for a great experience. ****

Stayed in the garden tent room. Would not recommend sleeping in the tent - did not sleep well at all: - trains noise all through the night (they horn continuously to warn people and animals off the tracks). Dogs barking. - Didn’t manage to have a warm / hot shower during our stay. Staff showed the switch for it - but didn’t get warm/ hot. Toilet didn’t always flush. - Mattress and pillows are really old. Please do consider buying new mattresses. Current mattress isn’t comfortable. Would recommend a larger mattress / bed and a foam mattress. - AC remote not working / stuck on - found 100+ ants in bathtub - people came and chatted outside room in the morning while watering plants. - neighbours burn material - rendering the property shrouded in smoke. - charity added to bill - staff could not say what it was for. But said total donated every month was 4000 INR. Which didn’t really add up, if it’s all being donated. Also was supposed to be optional - maybe better to ask before adding. - didn’t understand bill - no government tax added on it - as was already already apparently incorporated into individual amounts (no breakdown). Then there was an additional service charge of 10% added. But then also staff asked for extra additional service charge to be added on top of that. Bill wasn’t really explained and wasn’t clear with mistakes in bill amounts. Overall - sadly not what I remembered. Food and drink are still good if limited menu for longer stays.
