Red Roof Inn Tucson Downtown - University

I was happy with the room, it was clean and all the furnishings looked fairly new and in good shape. The bed was King Size and comfortable with 4 pillows.Always nice to have extra pillows. I found the pillows were a little lumpy though. The staff were courtesy and helpful. It's not an expensive hotel, so overall I would recommend it as good value for the price we paid.

Nice, clean hotel that served my purpose.

Like many others, we booked this hotel because of its proximity to the university during Family Weekend—everything else nearby was fully booked so we chose this one because of the great pictures. First off, kudos to the photographer—whoever took the marketing photos knows what they’re doing. They are real. The rooms are renovated, and the pool does exist… although it’s quite small and not very inviting in person. Unfortunately, what the pictures don’t show is the mold in the bathroom and the general atmosphere around the property. There appeared to be several long-term residents, and the parking lot often felt more like a shared living space than a secure area for guests. People were loitering around all hours of the day and night, and some were clearly under the influence of substances, making it very uncomfortable to walk through the area. Noise was also a major issue. A man on a motorcycle thought it was fine to fire it up at 6 AM while loudly chatting with neighbors. Kids were running around in the middle of the night with no adult supervision. This is not the restful environment we were hoping for. In the morning, I decided to walk a few blocks to Starbucks and immediately regretted not driving. Nearly every corner had homeless individuals either waking up for the day or still sleeping, and I didn’t feel safe at all. Despite being close to campus, this is not a walk I’d recommend, especially not for young women traveling alone. Bottom line: while the pictures sell a certain image, the reality was very different. If you’re coming for a campus visit or Family Weekend, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere—even if it means staying farther away and driving in.
