I took my partner here for her birthday this December. We had a mid-week Black Friday deal which included a spa experience and overnight stay in one of the apartments. The spa was okay, but as it is low-season and mid-week it had no vibe at all. The main pool and infinity pool were shut periodically while they only had one lifeguard around. The saunas, hydro-pool and hot tubs were all nice enough but the outdoor infinity pool was too cold to spend any time in (when it was open.) We had a nice meal in the restaurant, the service was great. The room was nice - no frills but clean and very warm. In general, I would say there are better spas around and closer to Glasgow. As with other reviews, very close to being great but doesn't quite hit the full potential. For such a big space it feels very empty in December - something to consider. That being said, we had a great time and enjoyed ourselves.

The trip started off to a bad start as we had to drive through storm Darragh to get to Portavadie and the trip sadly never got any better from there on. We arrived slightly later than expected due to the storm and arrived at 7pm and reception was shut, I was phoned a few hours prior to inform me that reception would be shut in all fairness but it wouldve been nice for someone to help us find our accomodation. However when we arrived I couldnt see where I was going as I drove down to the main area and the road leading up to reception isnt lit. I find this very dangerous as we brought our dogs with us and had to shine our phone torches at night to see where we were going when out a walk and to make sure drivers could see us. The Spa was average but pleasant and clean enough. We couldnt watch live television on our room telly as there was no signal so I had to sign into my Netflix account. There was also no guide in our room to tell us a bit about Portavadie or a map of the area so that we would know where everything is. I was disappointed in the breakfast as Id ordered a full breakfast but the square sausage was pink and hadnt been cooked properly. Overall a very disappointing stay and has put me off coming back. Had heard good reviews from friends and family about Portavadie but I had a different experience.

The apartment was very clean. We would have liked a welcome pack to make it easier to plan our days. Dinner in the evening was lovely. Unfortunately, the cooked breakfast was poor. We didn't feel the staff were very attentive at meals. It didn't live up to expectations.

Portavadie has gone downhill I’m afraid. We’ve been several times and we’re unlikely to be going again. It’s expensive and service in the leisure centre and spa was poor. On top of booking several days of accommodation I really resent paying £30 per person to use a spa where (a) we were asked to change in the downstairs public swimming pool area when the spa changing rooms are right beside the spa - I think they just didn’t want to clean the spa changing room as the spa was empty! - and (b) a number of the features of the spa were not working. It’s expensive for a mediocre experience. The indoor leisure pool was shut for one of the days we were there. The public changing rooms showers need the drains thoroughly cleaned. The breakfast is okay and is primarily self service. We asked for extra bedding and didn’t get it, just sheets and an empty duvet cover, and we reported a broken dishwasher and it wasn’t fixed. It has previously felt quite wonderful but now feels a bit disappointing. Staff are nice and views are lovely.

Great place to visit loved it Highlight outdoor heated pool Only let down was food which was pretty poor certainly nowhere near the standard of the rest of the stay Needs a better wider selection and of a higher standard More local produce and seafood plus as one of us is vegan more imaginative options would be what I’d expect of this quality of resort Lastly staff fantastic

We had a great weekend staying in one of the cabins at Portavadie. It was really comfortable. The leisure facilities (including infinity pool overlooking the Loch were fantastic, and all the staff were lovely and really helpful. We didn't have the best weather but it didn't matter. The scenery and views from the site are stunning.
