There is a lot to applaud about the Riverview Resort. It has a nice rural, river front setting that is a relatively straightforward drive to the Big Temple, the main draw in the city. We were given a warm welcome and given a large, clean room. There was space for extra luggage, in a separate room from the bedroom and bathroom. This luggage room also had a fan, wardrobe and desk. The bathroom was a good size with a shower and bath, but the sink had no plug. The bedroom had a comfortable bed, safe, fridge, TV with Indian channels only, mosquito plug in, and air conditioning. The Wi-Fi was not great, quite slow. Sockets in the room were old and wobbly and needed treated with some care. Some of the paintwork in the luggage room was stained and the whole room felt like it could do with some modernisation. The room was clean though and the housekeeping good. The bathroom and the luggage room had window with open slats in them, potentially letting in insects. There was a balcony outside the room, on the first floor of a block, with views of the river, with lots of birdlife. The hotel sits in nice grounds, there is a big pool and a terrace to sit out on, which serves afternoon tea and is a buffet restaurant in the evening. The buffet we ate was mediocre. We went to the Big Temple in the evening and returned late, there was a lot of choice but quite a few of the dishes we tried were cold. Breakfast was also a buffet and similar in terms of quality to the evening meal. Early in the morning the hotel offers a peacock walk to spot the bird, that lives in the local countryside. We were lucky enough to see three. It was a great way to start the day. The road to the resort is narrow and on an embankment with few passing places. It might be tricky to navigate this at night and it would be better to arrive at the hotel by driving on the main road and turning off later although this may take longer. I don’t think the local area has many quality hotels, so competition may be limited. This hotel was fine for a night, but the accommodation is basic. The staff are very nice, but one night was enough of a stay for us.
