Kingscliff Hotel Holland on Sea ★★★★

📍 55 Kings Parade, Holland-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea, Tendring District

"Good location. Friendly welcome staff. Room was clean. Was little cold but extra blanket helped. I didn’t use the facilities. Only issue i found uncomfortable was getting to room via the stairs in bar area. A big round table when occupied i found little uncomfortable having to pass through to get to. I left early, no one on reception to give key back too. Waited a little, then went and looked. Found a member of staff in dining area behind, who advised was not her job. So left the key on reception side. Nice hotel tho. Thank you"

The Rose and Crown ★★★

📍 High St, Thorpe le Soken

"Only went in as we saw a sign saying they served English breakfasts. We were shunted to plain wooden tables (the nicely laid out ones were ''reserved for B & B guests''), and presented with the menu. We asked for a Latte and a pot of tea. The Latte was simply a coffee with milk and the pot of tea just about managed a single cup. The breakfast was awful, overcooked (burnt around the edges) strong smelling smoked bacon, cold beans which were dry on top (looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp), one single mushroom, overcooked, hard eggs, all in all a great disappointment, I ate virtually nothing but the person serving us was totally disinterested. She presented us with a full bill, heading towards £ 30, despite my returning a full, uneaten plate, which I paid. I did explain however, that there would be no tip and that I would make sure she got a full and honest review. Again she seemed totally disinterested. If you like good food and value your digestive system, please avoid this place at all costs. Very expensive overcooked rubbish !!!"

The Bell Inn ★★★

📍 High Street, Thorpe le Soken

"We had no idea what to expect - had never even heard of Thorpe-le-Soken - but we had a wonderful time and we couldn't fault The Bell. The best breakfast and our room was so comfortable and even had a fridge so we could buy some fresh milk for our tea and coffees. The staff were all so friendly and there was a large car park across the road. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone. Miriam and Trefor Rogers"

Lifehouse Spa and Hotel ★★★★
"Our room was spotless , a comfy bed and a good shower , the pool+ hot room area were really good, but for reference there are 3 (members only) aqua aerobics classes a week which use the whole pool , and whose participants’warm up’ prior to the class -so it’s very busy to the class , there are a great selection of (pre bootable )classes , treatments and a well equipped  gym (all obviously open to  members ) , the meal options are delicious, and the staff are charming"

"Called in for breakfast today. Really busy, but a member of staff, a very pleasant man with an Irish accent found us a table. The food was good, but we were most impressed with the hard working staff and the quality of service provided."

Kingscliff Hotel Holland on Sea ★★★★
"We have been here many times and have had a great time. Everything is good except for restaurant chairs that are covered in a type of suede leather.and are badly stained need to be recovered. asthis is not a very good sight in a restaurant..apart from that the place is spotless ."

"We had two wonderful nights at The Bell. The room was very good with a lovely bathroom complete with shower. The heat wave was on when we stayed but we had a tower fan in the room which, together with the open windows, kept the room at a comfortable temperature. The food was very good and the staff, particularly Courtney, were all charming. There is a great deal to do and explore in the area, for example Beth Chatto's garden is only 15 minutes away as is the Naze at Walton. The walks at the Naze are very good and the Tower is now open for visitors and also provides an art gallery and refreshments. We look forward to a return trip in the near future."
