I will start with the good and then go to the bad. The breakfast is as great as they say Greiten is an amazing cook. Maggie was super helpful with any questions I had about the area. Now to the bad. I love staying at boutique hotels bc typically you can support a small business and you can’t get lost in a big hotel chain especially since I do a lot of solo traveling. I had a question about a price change going lower and I’m assuming the owner Patrick had an issue with me regarding that. I don’t want to assume it’s bc I’m black. It’s a small hotel I saw his wife and she was kind and greeted me. The owner refused to speak to me the entire time I was there. As an owner bc there is a question or concern you can’t get mad at the guest who has a genuine concern. Anyway instead of me giving a poor review bc I think of the people that depend on the hotels success to take care of their families I just hopes he doesn’t mistreat the staff bc clearly he can hold a grudge. I’ve never experienced anything like this but even a rude person that isn’t from Costa Rica can’t take away the joy and all the amazing people I encountered there.

In the Shade Hotel is very clean with an efficient working air conditioning, nice water pressure in the shower and enough space in the room.
Front desk person was friendly and informative.
On either side of the hotel you have a choice of restaurants to eat. And you have a bank, stores and restaurants within walking distance to the hotel.

The hotel was fantastic. Service was impeccable and staff very attentive. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff recommended many restaurants and activities to make my stay perfect. Highly recommend.

All of the staff especially Maggie made my stay very comfortable. As a young traveler Maggie gave advice, safety tips, and fun activities. Whenever there was a transportation concern Maggie was right on top of it with solutions. The free coffee in the morning was a cherry on top. And the safety in a city was astonishing. I will for sure be staying here again and for anyone thinking of staying in Tamarindo pick this hotel!

In The Shade is amazing!! I have been to Costa Rica 8 times now and have tried all different places, but this is at the top. The staff is all so friendly and they serve a great cup of coffee in the morning. What really makes this a good place to stay in Tamarindo is that it's very close to the main roads you will want to spend your time at, but the Hotel is very private. The Hotel is cozy, clean and quiet - what more could you ask for? Overall a 10/10 experience, hopefully I will be back!

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, perfectly located in Tamarindo. It’s just peaceful enough to relax and unwind, yet close enough to the town’s vibrant life to fully enjoy the Pura Vida spirit. Everything was perfect — from the outstanding breakfasts to the impeccable service. This definitely won’t be our last visit, and we absolutely recommend this place without hesitation. A special thanks to Maggie for her incredible way with guests (she patiently answered all our many questions!) and to the entire staff for making us feel so welcome. Whether you're looking for a relaxing getaway or a great spot for remote work (there are dedicated co-working areas!), this is the place to be. Well done to the whole team!
