This is a lovely, traditional ryokan, which means the furnishings and bathrooms and such are a bit dated. It is very quiet and both our private hot springs and the public one were comfortable. Enjoyed the hospitality overall, though few staff speak English very well.

My husband and I enjoy staying at hot spring inns ♨️ twice a month. This time we stayed at Hanaougi Bettei Iiyama. We were previously very satisfied with Hakone Gora Maru no Mori, and this spring we found out that Hidatei Hanaougi is a sister hotel, so we stayed there and enjoyed the slippery hot springs and hospitality, which is why we chose Iiyama this time. It was great from the person who greeted us at the entrance to the person who looked after our room and saw us off. We were also very satisfied with the room with an open-air bath. It's an inn we'd like to visit again.

We were very satisfied with everything about our stay. When I first saw the exterior, I thought, "Hmm...", but it was very comfortable from the time we were greeted at the parking lot to the time we were seen off when we left, and my wife was very happy. We were overwhelmed by the majestic design of the front lobby. The bath was as slippery as the reviews said, and the room attendant was very attentive and fully accommodated my wife's requests. The food was also very delicious, and this time we had our meal in the room because we could see our child. As I mentioned at the beginning, there is a sister hotel, Hanaougi, diagonally opposite, and compared to the exterior, I thought I might have made a mistake when booking, but after staying there, my thoughts changed completely. It's been a long time since I've had such a pleasant stay. I would like to give it full marks for the people, room, bath, food, and facilities. My wife said she would like to go again, but the only disappointing point is that it is a little expensive. But in terms of cost-effectiveness, it is full marks.

We stayed at this hotel, which does not allow children, because we had previously stayed at the Hanaougi hotel of the same group and enjoyed it. It was a quiet and comfortable stay, even though it was during the summer holidays. The open-air bath in the maisonette room was large (although it may look large in the photos, it is often small in reality), and it was nice that there was a toilet and sink on the second floor as well. The open-air bath was not connected to the indoor bath, which was a little inconvenient, and some of the room outlets were difficult to use. The large public bath was not very large, but it was not crowded and we were able to use it, and we were able to enjoy the thick hot spring. We had delicious meals in our private room. The parking lot was across the road and there was no car stop, so we needed an umbrella when it rained, which was the only thing that bothered us, but all four of us were very satisfied with our stay.

A nice little Ryokan. The food was beautifully presented and delicious - only hiccup was that despite the fact we’d told them in advance that a couple of us didn’t eat seafood - we were served seafood at each meal - besides that, the beef was delicious and good serving portions. The lady who looked after us during our stay was very nice and always happy. The location is slightly out of the main hustle and bustle of main Takayama but they do provide a shuttle service to the station morning and afternoons. Guests have access to the neighbouring Ryokan’s onsen. Was a nice experience but was expecting more for the price.

We stayed in four ryokans during our trip to Japan and this was easily the best of them, despite its official three-star grading (small TVs and some tired furnishings may explain that), set apart from the rest because of its simply outstanding hospitality and service. Staff here not only welcome guests with genuine warmth but also work hard to anticipate needs. Two examples from many: 1) We arrived drenched after touring the historic village of Shirakawago in a downpour and left our soaking shoes at the entrance. When we set off the next day to tour Takayama, using the ryokan’s shuttle, our shoes had been completely dried for us. The insoles of mine had even been replaced with new ones. 2) When our tour agents let us down badly and forgot to reserve a car for us on departure, staff let us use their phone, made us comfortable and even provided complimentary coffee (unrequested) while we waited for replacement transport. Apart from superb service, this ryokan had some of the best food we ate in Japan, served in our room. Our private onsen was more spacious than most, and there were nice extra touches, like an extra jug of iced water in our bedroom and two hairdryers (one in our downstairs bathroom and another in our upstairs bedroom). Please don’t be put off by the three-star grading. We’d give this ryokan at least six stars if we could and would recommend it to anyone wanting a traditional Japanese experience, with all its sensational bells and whistles.

A pleasant Ryokan. Food was beautifully presented and quite good. Some of the little dishes were excellent, others less so. Our lady who was looking after us was called Emily and was very kind and friendly and helpful. The location is slightly out of the main hustle and bustle but they do provide a shuttle service. Was a nice experience but somehow was expecting a little more really. Worthy of a solid 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

It's far from Takayama Station, and to be honest, the location isn't great, but the rooms are spacious enough for two people, and the staff's attentive service is perfect. During our stay, Murata-san was very helpful, explaining the meals and even seeing us off when we left. You can enjoy not only the Iiyama baths, but also the adjacent Hanaougi baths. We previously stayed at Gora's Maru no Yashiro, and the room was almost the same, except that it didn't have an open-air bath. We enjoyed a variety of meals, including Hida koshihikari rice, seafood from Toyama Bay, and Hida beef. It would have been nice if the room had a few more power outlets.
